Well now that I have a mini strider and a buck 560, I got around to wondering if there is really that much difference between these two in how tough they are. I know that there will be some because of blade size and the locks being different, but it just seems to me that they are pretty close. Or is there another Buck folder that anyone thinks tops either of these two?

The answer to your question really depends on how you view "tough". If the question
is about overall strength as a cuttting tool then they would be equal. If you wonder about
use as a cutting tool pry bar then the strider would have clear edge. The 560 (110 cousin)
blade was designed as cutting tool for flesh. Where the strider was designed as a suvival
tool for general do everything ( even those things you shouldn't do with any knife) tool.

THey are both pretty rugged knives. If you wanted to compare them in side by side tests in the lab, the Strider/Buck wins. I have to say that tongue in cheek though as you should never know the breaking point of either knife in normal use.
For edge retention, the 560 wins since its edge geometry is more suitable for long life.
It comes down to what you want the knife to do for you.
Hope this helps.
