What do you guys feel like some of the tougher more reliable small folders(around 3" blade) are? Want one that will hold and edge, lock up hard, handle some fairly heavy cutting, and ride in my pocket comfortably. Would like to keep it around 100 bucks also. Let's here what you've got to say. Thanks.

Strider PT!!!! Ooops, missed the around the $100 thing. Hmmmm, that leaves me in a quandry.

Buck Strider 881-a virtual tank!
Benchmade 707
Benchmade RSK Mini

Klien Tools has some small ones that are excellant. Your looking at around 80-90 bucks with these knives.

Just about any $100 knife will hold an edge well, and the non-delicate ones will hold up to heavy cutting. The wildcards here are "comfortably" and "lock up hard." I'd definitely check out the Paramillie and the smaller Axis models.

More unusual choices would include the Lil' Temperance and some of the older G10 Spydies.

Cabela's Benchmade Grip or Mini Grip in D2 Steel are both under $ 100 and D2 holds up very well.

The new Spyderco Calypso Jr. in ZDP Steel is also awesome and though I have only had one for several weeks, the unbelievably sharp edge seems to outperform D2. It also is around $ 70 from New Graham Knives.

I have a VG-10 Calypso Jr. with the grey FRN handle. Awesome slicer, but I have always been a little concerned about it not having steel liners. Wonder how tough that FRN really is?

best small folder i have seen is my wifes microtech mini SOCOM elite frame lock, a very stout little knife imho.

as far as how tough is FRN? well its pretty darned tough, i cant stand the way it looks but even i will admit its plenty strong for the intended purpose.
