Looking at picking up a multitool in the near future and wasnt sure which company to go with.

SOG, Buck, Leatherman, any other one?

Who makes the absolute toughest multitool on the market?

Thinking it isn't Gerber, saw plenty of the one's issued by the Army break. Then again the same guys who were breaking Gerbers I'm sure would have found a way to break any multi-tool.

I would have to say Leatherman. I own both the Charge TTi, and the Juice CS4 and I have to say that they're worth every penny. I don't even know how I would go about breaking one.

I don't care for their knives, but I love my Gerber multitool. Plus, they do have a great warranty.

My Leatherman Wave doesnt get much hard use,but i dont think i could break it if i tried.

I've owned both Victorinox and Leatherman. I'd go with the Victorinox Swisstool or Spirit. Scuff up the Phillips driver on either a bit for more grab. They are a bit slippery.

leatherman super tool 300

I picked this over the wave/surge simply because I use the pliers more than I need the tools, and the locks for the knives/saw/file are stronger than those found on the wave/surge, which uses liner locks

Most of the Multitools by Leatherman, Gerber, Swisstool, and SOG are well designed and very tough for their intended uses; But all can be abused to the point of failure.
I tend to see a Multi-Tool, as a handy, somewhat emergency substitute for a dedicated tool, not the "end-all,be-all" tool in and of itself.
What sort of uses do you intend for the tool? If you foresee breaking the tool, then perhaps you may need to have the appropriate tool at hand. Eg: Real Pliers, Wrenches or Screwdriver, etc.

That being said, I LOVE my old Leatherman Wave, which has endured it's share of use and occ abuse.

I have to agree about the SwissTool and the Leatherman. I don't own a Swisstool but I've fondled more than a few, and just holding one inspires confidence in its ability.

I've had a couple of Leatherman tools and they have never failed me. I have total confidence in them.

I used to have a SOG Paratool and it was nice. Never any issues with it, but I went back to Leatherman.

The older U.S. made Gerber's were great tools. I still have an MPT Tool. Since the production moved offshore, I have broken a couple of Suspension's and I've seen other models broken too. Offshore models SUCK, IMO.

Don't know what the toughest is, but I used the hell out of my old school Leatherman Wave for years and I got it after it was already well-used. I only recently got the newer Wave version. If the Supertool or the Swisstool are that much tougher than the Wave, I doubt you'll have any problems with them.

Another vote for the Victorinox Spirit from experience. Tough and sexy!

You might want to add some friction tape to the handles--those are a bit slippery, too. I've had a SwissTool and may get another. I currently have a Spirit S and am very happy with it--just need to get off my butt and add a pocket clip to it.

we will see about that because I just turned one . usa made. I told them I didnt want the china one. they said if they didnt have the usa made they would give me credit so I can get anything else instead but they want to give me china price instead of usa made credit.

So it seems its between Swisstool (who I'm not familiar with & must check them out) and Leatherman.

Seems a few models were suggested, Wave, Charge Ti, Super tool 300

I guess its just a matter of finding which one has the particular tools I find handy when choosing a LM.

I would say that the Charge TTi would be nicer if there was more Ti on it other than just a couple of scales...

I always have loved my Leatherman's but I was using my Leatherman Blast the other night and I was putting on a scope for my rifle and was using the small flat head screw driver bit to tighten the screws and I wasn't putting hardly any pressure on the screws at all and the bit broke. That kind of disappointed me. Anyway, I still love Leathermans's. Ill send my Blast back to get fixed or Ill just sharpen the small flat head bit and make a Leather punch out of it. Still, I was shocked that it broke so easily.
