Can anybody give me a list of some of the toughest most impact resistant steels? I am not nessesarily talking about edge holding but steels that would be good for chopping hard woods and prying without fracturing or shattering. Thanx,

TBG

The Shock series steels, i.e S5, S7.

Thom Brogan is the guy to ask about this!

Check out Sword Forums for more info as well, those guys are into serious toughness.

After that, I find 5160 Spring steel to be very tough, in the powdered steels, check out 3V.

Do you have a link?

Also, if someone (like Thom) could give a report of the difference between marstenite and banite that would be great.

L6 is a good, versatile steel. I like it in thin blades.

INFI (Busses proprietary steel) and S7 seem to handle shocks well. 52100 and 5160 with the right heat treat also seem to work well.
