As the clocks go back this weekend, the Lake District (In NW England, for the benefit of you chaps from the colonies...) is launching a new telephone line to keep seasonal depression at bay.
Britons suffering from the winter blues can ring the Lake District Escape Line and hear the sound of fresh air blowing across England's highest mountain, a reading of Wordsworth's Daffodils or Cumberland sausage sizzling in a pan.
The tourism board's website encourages people depressed at the prospect of the darkness of winter to download the sounds onto their computers or MP3 players in order to listen to them during their morning commute.
Eric Robson, of Cumbria Tourism, the organisation behind the telephone line, said: Many people dread the clocks going back but our Lake District Escape Line will inspire them to think more positively about winter and get outdoors.
Calls to the helpline, on 0870 224 1856, are charged at the national rate.
The sounds:
Lake Windermere lapping against a jetty
The gush of Aira Force Waterfall in spate near Lake Ullswater
The sound of fresh air blowing across England's highest mountain
The crunch of leaves on a Lake District walk
The peacefulness of a calm Lake District valley
A reading of Wordsworth's Daffodils by Eric Robson
Cumberland sausage sizzling in a pan
