I island hop quite a bit for work, well it comes in waves, so since the new years I've been to the outer islands 7 or 8 times... Anyways, part of my normal load is a cardboard box full of tools and equipment (a spool of wire and what not), So when the job is done, I gotta seal it.. in my carry on I normally have a roll of packing tape to do my box.

So on my way home this evening, I'm standing in the TSA screening line, go threw the xray thingy and I hear the guard talking about my flashlight in my pack. Mind you I can see him zooming in and out on it, he calls his sup and asks for a back check.. no biggy been there, done that... sup says it's a flashlight and to let it go... he says "it'll make me feel better if you check" I got a couple of small patch cables bundled up and what not, so I shrug it off. and move over to the screening area. The sup looks right at the light and hits the tail cap... BAM max power to the orbs, we all let out a bit of a giggle... He then pulls out my roll of packing tape and asks me what its for....

Apparently "So she don't put up a fight" is not an acceptable answer...

And asking for the female TSA agent to preform a frisk doesn't make things any better.

After a quick frisk, and a bit more Q and A, I made my flight... was it worth it... YES the expressions on everyones faces when I said that was priceless, even the other passengers were kinda shocked that I said it.

Duct tape works better.

Loved the art about the lumens hitting the agent smack in the peepers. He was probably seeing spots all day long.

Nice fun story. Would love to have your job with the island hopping in Hawaii!

I know right, I would have loved it if my light fired up in strobe mode I'd have fallen over loling at the dude.

The thing about being in Hawaii is that when you island hop as much as I do, which really isn't that much compared to others, is that you get to know people by face, most of the TSA agents I recognize so they'll ask where to and make small talk, more so than whats "normal". The female agent and I have had run-ins before, so when I asked for her to frisk me she smiled... the men, I guess didn't find that so funny, a couple of them first timers to me... but not to worry I'll break'em down in due time.

Island hopping for work is only fun when I get done early and can lollygag around on company time... or I have to stay over night with someone that doesn't mind picking up the beer tab =)

That's funny. Maybe you can very subtly hum the Beatles' song "Everybody's Got something To Hide Except Me And My Monkey" as you go through security.
