I have read several posts now about the new and old trac-tec, but the pictures I've seen don't look any different. Does anyone have a good picture of the new and old version that would help show the difference? Before anyone asks, there are no knife shops around me that sell Kershaws (or even many that sell knives at all).

Pictures don't really show the difference that well...

In feel, it's the difference between coarse-grit sandpaper (old Trac-Tec), and cork (new Trac-Tec).

I'll try and take some macro pics of the 2, but I'm not that good of a photographer, and it probably won't help that much...

Here's the old: http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj162/reholli/Trac-Tec/DSC00504.jpg

...and here's the new: http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj162/reholli/Trac-Tec/DSC00503.jpg

One additional difference is that the newer Trac-Tec fills out the inlay area more completely while the older is slightly recessed...

Hope this helps...

Nice pics Ray...you have a way with a camera!

But aren't the descriptions reversed?

Thanks SPX...no, the descriptions are accurate and not reversed...

The old Trac-Tec is finer-grained in appearance but rougher in feel...the newer feels much smoother although it looks rougher in a close-up photo due to the larger grains.

So, if I understand correctly, the new style is more "rubbery?" Great pictures! Thanks!

You're welcome!

And you are right...the new style is more rubbery. :D

It also causes less pocket wear...but for some weird reason I still prefer the old style...;)
