Doing an informal test so to speak.

Using 8670, 15n20, s7, stuff, a8mod, and 9260.

Like to see which will be the toughest at 58-60, granted I'm not confident I can get s7 that high

Anyways can track down all fairly easily except 9260? Anyone help me out? Looking for a piece 2" wide 24" long Wider would be better say in the 12" range but I can make 2" work.

I understand admiral used to carry 9260 under another steels name, but cant find it.

My google fu is pretty good too but I cant find 9260 for sale anywhere.

Apprecate any help guys

Thank you.

Last 9260 I bought was Bill Moran's stock. It was all 1.25X.25" stock. Probably still have some in the shop. Don't recall any of it being 2" wide, though. I'll take a look this afternoon if I get out there.

Check local spring shops. It’s a common steel for coil springs.

Larrin’s testing has samples of each of the steels except 9260 in the works. Watch for updates as samples are ground and tested. I haven’t found any 9260 yet either, but haven’t followed my own advice.

9260 is definitely out there as round bar. I have searched extensively and have never seen anything in flat form.

The highest I've been able to get S7 is 60-61 (post quench/pre temper) with a plate quench and 1730 aus temp.

Admiral sold 1 x 1/4 round edge bar as 5160 alternative. The rest of their sizes were actually 5160.
