Some years ago I saw a knife in AG Russell's catalog that could be carried in either a folded or fixed mode. Does anyone recall this knife? I'd contact AG Russell but they're a bit busy these days.

The Gerber Parabellum did that. In this image you can see the sheath has a pouch on the front for carrying the knife folded, but the back portion is a sheath for carrying it locked open.

I have a Parabellum that I bought whenever it first came out. I carried it as a fixed blade once but saw no real advantage to doing so. It is still in my collection. It's a very stout knife.

You could do the same with any folder. Just find the right sheath.

If the owner of the sheath catches up with you and wants his sheath back, swash the knife through your belt before you buckle it, pirate style.

Not A.G. Russell but couple of Italian knives come in mind: Fox Cutlery Pro Hunter and Extrema Ratio RAO.
