Tracking on my Bader BIII

Ok, so I FINALLY got around to trying to use the hollow grinding wheels for my Bader BIII, that I bought a long time ago. So far, I've only flat ground, but I've been wanting to try these wheels for a long time; just never got around to it. So, I switched the arm and installed the smaller 5" hollow grinding wheel first. I adjusted the tension, until it was nice and tight and turned the machine on. Belt ran all the way over to the right side. Adjusting the tracking knob, I got the belt almost centered properly, and then it ran all the way over to the left side. :grumpy: No matter what I did, I could NOT get the belt to stay centered properly. It either ran off to the right or off to the left. Switching to the 12" hollow grinding wheel, I had the exact same result. :mad:

WTF, over? What do I have to do, to get these wheels to track properly? Switching back to the flat platen, the belt tracks correctly. ???
 
I put a couple extra wraps of electrical tape in the center of the large wheel next to the tracking adjustment and it solved the same issue with mine.
 
I had a similar problem with my bader and a 14" new wheel. I called Bader and spoke with a lady. Long story short, I took a file and slightly worked the edges while running. This allowed for a slight crown in the center. My problem was solved.

Here are the instructions from Bader.

Tracking
Turning the tracking screw in the direction you want the belt to move controls
tracking. The belt may be tracked over edge of the contact wheel to facilitate
getting into corners and following irregular shaped. Tracking problems can
generally be traced to one or a combination of 3 conditions: (a) crown worn
off idler pulley (b) groove worn in drive pulley (c) out of round and out of
balance contact wheel. Refacing or replacing the worn pulley or wheel can
solve any of the above conditions.
New rubber contact wheels are frequently high on one or both sides. This
condition will result in the belt wanting to track over near the edge of the
wheel and jump ½ “ or more off the side of the wheel. This condition can be
corrected by tapering the edge of the wheel just a little by holding as piece of
sharp 80-120 grit sandpaper against the high side while it is under power.
Wheels partially worn may be retrued in much the same manner. Note take all
necessary precautions if attempting to dress a rotating wheel in this manner.

I'll fiddle with it again tonight. I'll try the tape trick and new belts.
 
I had a similar problem last week with my Bader 3. I found the tensioning arm bolt and the bolt on the tracking adjuster both loose. It was a very simple fix for me. I hope yours is as well. Jess
 
The tape trick should do the.....trick. Tape on the drive and tracking wheels if it is severe.
 
Check to see if your top arms allen bolt is tight.

Could be a loose nut in your shop!!!:eek:
