I had big plans to force a patina on my new-to-me Case Sway Back Jack with CV steel, but decided to "just use it" like I did with all my knives when I was a kid. Figured I'd keep a thread going to see how it develops over time and share the pics with anyone who's curious.

Here's what it looked like to start:

And here's what it looks like after cutting its first apple today. Took about a minute to cut, and I rinsed it clean about a minute later.

It certainly didn't take long! I haven't started with the smaller blade yet. Maybe I'll leave it a lone for a while so I have a comparison.

Thanks for looking!

It's a fine choice of knife, I have found that CASE cv takes on a nice even patina/colour in short measure too. No spotty or blotchy look.

Might be more tricky on that little Pen blade though ;)

I'm enjoying the heck out of it. I fidget, so it gets treated like a worry stone most days, and I purposely tracked down a CV model so I could develop a patina. Really couldn't be more pleased with it so far.

An apple a day keeps the rust away.

I have found I get better patina when I use my knife to peel and eat the apple instead of just cut them up, i generally get far more patina than that with one apple but I do only really eat granny smith apples which might also have something to do with it.

I was quickly cutting a Honeycrisp for my kid’s lunch. I’ll grab one for myself and take my time with it.

Thanks for sharing. A beautiful patina developing. I just handled a swayback today for the first time. Wow it felt good in the hand.
