My wife and I took advantage of a recent visit to the Atlanta area to make a swing up into the north Georgia mountains to take in the sights and do a little hiking. We love living in SW Florida but we do miss the mountains. Given all the excitement around the spring Hammer-In Event we decided to stop by Trackrock in Blairsville, GA to check things out.

Given the limited GPS details we had to rely on signage to discover this little gem:

As you approach the office you immediately get a feel for the country charm that gives the campground its personality:

The grounds are well maintained and are situated in a beautiful setting:

Here is a shot of the lake & beach area:

The staff is super friendly.....they gave us the keys to one of the cabins to check out:

We even drove up to Cabin 5 where the Fiddleback Crew bunked during the Spring Hammer-In......its still standing ;):

The setting was so peaceful we didn't want to leave:

And since this is a knife forum......here is the customary Fiddleback shot:

If I remember correctly the Fall Hammer-In is scheduled for September 25 & 26. From what we heard things are starting to book up so if you're planning on attending you better give the office a call at 706-745-2420 to make your reservations.

It was easy to see why Carl has chosen Trackrock as the site for this special event !

Beautiful pics Peter! That is great you got to check it out. I would love to make it out to one of the hammer ins someday. That barn shot in the meadow is just gorgeous.

Thanks so much for sharing!

Track Rock is a real gem tucked away in the north east Ga. mountains. Those of us fortunate enough to do the twice a year hammerin are always thrilled to be there and take in the atmosphere and sights. It is family owned (the Alexanders) and you'll usually see one of the family hard at work. Frank Alexander does his best to hit hot steel at the hammerin each session. Best bunch of people, always going out of their way to make everyone comfortable. The cabins are first rate with most essential supplied. That swing you're on has carried my weight many times and a super spot to just sit and relax. The regular camp sites are well thought out and maintained. Sure glad you had a chance to visit and enjoy. Could be reason enough to make plans for the next hammerin (late Sept.)

I said it before, and I still stand by it. If you have the chance to get to one of the hammer-in's at Trackrock, you will not be disappointed. I drove down from Suffolk, VA (about 10 hours) having never met a soul nor been to any of the events. The guys at the campground were nice, the guys at the hammer in were nice. Everyone was just nice. No airs of superiority, no "who is this guy?" none of that. More of a "Hey, I forgot your name, but I haven't seen you with a hammer in your hand." The auction was an awesome display of folks having fun and making sure that everyone had a "score" especially the newbies (who were often about 13 years old.)

Anyway, here's a night time shot as I prefer to play around with my camera after the lights go out..

Beautiful photos Peter. It looks like a little piece of Georgia heaven. My wife and I are heading up to Blacksburg, Virginia to see some friends after the Blade Show. We might have to take a detour along the way to see Trackrock first hand.

Phil,
From Blade it's a pretty straight shot up to Blairsville, GA. and about 15 more miles to Track Rock. Leave Track Rock and take US 64 across the mountains (very scenic drive) to Asheville, NC (wave at me or better yet, stop in) and then I-26 to I-81 and on to Blacksburg. Another scenic route would be to take US 64 to Waynesville, NC and hook up with the Blue Ridge Parkway and take that all the way to Roanoke, Va.

Wow! That is the definition of Heaven, I understand why you didn't want to leave. But, then again you can always come back to:thumbup:

Seeing it makes me miss it more.

Thanks for sharing the pics Pete. I showed them to the Mrs and thought it was beautiful. I really need to travel and camp in new places. :)

Peter, great photos. Love seeing those rolling peaks keeping watch over the meadows.

This past spring it was my anniversary and the date for the fall is my wife's birthday. If they still have a cabin available maybe I can convince her it would be a good weekend away with the kids???

Thanks for the pics, they might help!

Thanks for all of the comments guys......TR is definitely a little slice of heaven on earth !

Thanks for posting. This place is right on the other side of Lake Chatuge from where a lot of my family lives in Hiawassee and I've never stopped in to check it out. There are so many little gems in North GA. Will have to check it out in a few weeks when I head back up. I was just up there myself with some family that visited from Tampa. They live on the water, but love the mountains for a change of pace. Took them to Amicalola Falls for a real treat.

Thanks for the tip Rick. We will take that route when we head out later Sunday morning. I have never been through that part of the country and I am looking forward to it.

Great pics Peter!! Thank you for the thread. I love the view from the porch swing. That is a perfect setting for a nice cigar and a couple fingers of bourbon. :)

I hope to make it down there for the next spring trip. Unfortunately September won't work for me. The first weekend of October I will be heading in the opposite direction to the West part of Michigan's U.P. where I bow hunt.
