Trade a BK15 for a BK17 ?

For a long time I have wanted a BK17. I just think they are sexy looking with the saber grind and clip point. However when I started seriously looking to buy my first tweener I went with the 16 over a year ago because the design was better suited to general homestead and camping use. Someone on here said I would still want the 17 and they were right.:D Shortly after getting the 16 I also picked up a 15 because it was a great deal.

Now over a year later I still would like the 17 but don't really need all three tweener's. Blasphemy, I know! But seriously I have worked hard to pair down my physical belongings so I am thinking of possibly trying to find someone to trade a 17 for my 15 to keep from accumulating more stuff. Then when I went looking today I see that the 15 is discontinued. That adds a little bit of a dilemma to the subject.

That do you guys think. Would I be screwed up in the head to trade a discontinued BK for a current model?:D (BTW, I already know the answer to the screwed up in the head question, = Yes!)

Because I am already stressed out that I have three BK's and the thought of four is just too much to bear.

to be honest, I don't think it'll be much of an issue anyway... if I were to venture a guess I'd say Kabar sold 100 16s to every 50 15s to every 10 17s...... so the odds of finding someone who HAS a 17 and does NOT have a 15 and is willing to make the trade.... I'm thinking slim and none.....especially after factoring in the fact that 15s were just blown out for under 50 bucks for almost a full year on most retail sights.... think the best I saw em was 35.00...... I bought 3 extras at that price.

now, several years from now..... probably pretty good odds....

just my opinion....I might be very very wrong.... but I kinda doubt it.

So your saying you think I Will just have to suck it up and own all three tweeners? Jeez your killing me man!:D

I think you'd be crazy to make that trade because I like the BK15, and dislike the the clip point on the BK17...but it isn't me that would owning the 17, or losing the 15. If you don't care for the 15, and you want the 17, you don't have to answer to anybody here (except maybe Guyon) - make the choice that is right for you.

Me thinks that you'll just have to deal with owning one each of all three Tweeners.

There are those around here who would also have mental and/or emotional trepidation about owner one each, as on only one each of the three Tweeners.

Here's my thoughts on the matter, in picture format.

I just bought another 16 off the exchange, and I've given away two other 15's. I put the peanut butter scales and stainless hardware on the 17, I've never felt an urge to actually use it for anything though. I just got micarta grips and stainless hardware from Dex last week, they'll be going on the user 15.

Greebe PM me. I actually have a spare 17 atm, and really love the 15s. I might be willing to trade.

or you could mod your 16 with a straight clip to make it 15-ish.

Because I am already stressed out that I have three BK's and the thought of four is just too much to bear.

Then send me one and buy a 17! Problem solved all the way around.
I'll even pay for the shipping.

Seriously. The 17s not going anywhere. Keep your 15 (which is a fantastic knife), save up a few sheets of papyrus then buy a 17 as well. Taking up room? It's a knife dude, not a shipping container..

Oh, and just a little edit for all you guys who dislike the 17. It really is a stout little blade with more durability than you think. And honestly, it's just a saber 16 with a pointier tip. Don't discount it because Uncle E prefers the 16. Yeah, it's a bit Mall Ninja but is really does hold its own in the field. Take it from your old pal Springy..

You guys got me to thinking some more about it. I might just put the notion of getting the 17 aside for now. I would like to have it but really don't need it for using. Might get rid of the 15 as well and be down to just the 7 and 16. That way I will have a bigger blade and regular size user. The 16 gets used quite a bit around the homestead / farm. Just don't want to own a lot of stuff in my life right now as that stuff can easily own you.

Before you get a 17, get a 4 before their gone! You'll find a use for it. Especially since they are only $45 right now. (I know this is completely off topic but everyone should get one while they're cheap. Surprising blade.)
