Trade for a 3.5"? Or be happy and thankful with what you have?

I am taking ownership of my first Hinderer, a NIB XM-18 3" non-flipper this week. Excited is an understatement, even though I basically took what I could get, and it's the 3" version. I currently EDC a ZT0200. It's a big knife, but it fits my big hands perfectly. It's a little big in the pocket (nothing else goes in there) but it's worth it to have the functionality. I'm nervous about 2 things - I really like 1) the size of the ZT0200, and I really like 2) the flipper on the ZT. Neither of these are features on the 3" XM. I will most likely sell the ZT0200 because I'm a 1 knife kind of guy. Should I try and trade for a 3.5" - or just be thankful that I was able to score a XM, especially since I thought I would NEVER own one?

Get the 3" in hand and I'd say you will know if it fits you or not pretty quick. I honestly prefer the 3.5". If you like the size and feel of the ZT0200 my guess is that you will want a 3.5".

I say hold on to the 3 inch and your ZT. Save up some funds and try for a 3.5 inch flipper down the road. Having both a 3.5 and 3 inch as a set is a great idea. They compliment each other very well. That's what I would do.

Now, since you said youre a one knife kind of guy. If you can only keep one. At least try the 3 inch out. If it's a no go. Do what you gotta do to get your hands on a 3.5 flipper. Shouldn't be hard at all to trade up.

Good luck!

My advice to you would be to buy a 3 1/2" and have both of them in front of you. For me if I'm trying to decide between two knives the best thing to do is hold them both at the same time and usually the answer will be clear. And the great thing is that you won't have to try very hard to sell the one you don't want to keep. I have a 3" flipper and I love it but I have small hands. My guess is you'll be carrying a 3 1/2" xm-18 before too long, but I could be wrong. It's still cool that one found one though, I know that feeling and it's awesome! Good luck dude...

Thanks for the replies. I realized when making this thread that I was putting the cart before the horse...but it's hard not to be excited and start wondering if you've made the right decision. I'm really anxious to try out the 3". I do think that I will want to find a 3.5" flipper - and as much as I would like to have both in hand, that may be a little difficult. I hadn't planned on spending this much now, but forking out double that to have both in hand may put me in the dog house :) I am definitely going to give the 3" a chance, but may eventually try my luck at trying to find someone willing to trade to a smaller size (which doesn't seem likely). Who knows, it may be a moot point once I get the Hinderer awesomeness in my hand!

You got it brotha. Try it out. You might love it.

Let us know what you decide.

I agree with Rick,
I think having both 3.5 and 3 as a set is a good idea.
Sometimes, you are glad you have the 3 when you are in need to use your knive but you dont want to pull that 3.5 beast outta your pocket.

I would think that as peace of mind, 3.5 is a better choice,
but the 3 would be sufficient at whatever cutting you might need to perform all day long.
and you wouldn't scare everyone away....

my EDC is also a ZT 0200. like the size, like the flipper, have two of them, but i'm looking for a 3.5" XM-18 flipper. (in orange)

hard to tell someone else what to do, since he's already pulled the trigger on the 3". some people don't want a larger knife and some people have size restrictions in their area.

nothing against the 3", but it sounds like he likes the larger knife.

sometimes it's hard to tell until you have something in your hands and spend time with it. doesn't matter if it's a knife, gun, vehicle, or a woman. sometimes it's all you expected and more, sometimes it's just not all that and you can't wait to get rid of it.

I like all three sizes.
I've got a 3" non-flipper and it fires open with the thumb stud.
Then again I mostly EDC my 3 1/2" flipper.
Some days the XM-24 goes in the pocket.
I think you're going to like the 3".

Thanks again guys. I'm getting pretty excited. Should be here by Thurs or Fri. I believe it's also the CTS-XHP, not the D2. Maybe a question more for Rick - but where are you guys finding all the XM's? I've only seen them available on the for sale forum here. None of Hinderer's listed dealers have any, and I've been checking for a few months. You guys just getting lucky, or does constantly scouring the sites pay off? I only ask since I'm eyeing the 3.5"...not trying to get in anyone's proverbial kool-aid :D

i would say, eyeing specific sites, look for buyers in the exchange area.
continuous F5...
and quick typing skills with Paypal and PMs
