As a Basic member is it ok for me to list sharpening services as trade for knives? Example: Someone gives me a used Tenacious and I sharpen a couple of their other knives. No cash exchanged.

The trade section is for items, not services. In order to offer services, you need the orange craftsman membership level.

Ok, I had hoped that offering services as TRADE for ITEMS would be allowed. Seemed to fall outside the scope of the rules as they're written.

Seems a silly distinction to make, but I'll hold off and see if we can get the ruling changed.

Silly as it may seem, many knife sharpeners have to pay for the ability to offer that service. I guess people can always hope, but I don't think a rule change is imminent. The rules are not inclusive of every possible scenario, that would be way too long for any one to read. Best of luck.

And can you do that (offer services for goods) in your sig block as a Basic Member?

Nope. That is the entire purpose of memberships, they pay the bills formbandwidth, servers, software licenses, tech support, etc. Everything costs something, sadly running a forum this size doesn't come cheap.

That's what I figured. Thanks.

Exchanging a good for a service is more barter than trade. Semantics sure, but it does remind me of those trade threads that say they'll accept cash in trade.
