Looking forward to watching this one, thanks for taking the time to post the pictures.

thanks guys

today i have to cut handle material so i do a pile at a time the board is around 7 inches by 7/8 i use a band saw so i don't loose so much in the cut

002-3.jpg

then i split the board

005-5.jpg

004-4.jpg

the rough swan handles on to the planer

006-3.jpg

i do truly love maple

007-2.jpg

009-2.jpg

i did get the handles cut out today too

001-7.jpg

003-4.jpg

the liners ready to be glued to the wood

004-5.jpg

all four pieces with a healthy dose of epoxy

005-6.jpg

and now glued to the knife

007-3.jpg

tomorrow ill drill the holes and put in the pins and lanyard hole and finish it out

so today i got the handle profiled

001-8.jpg

drilling the holes for the pins ,,,yep i drill the holes AFTER i glue the handles on

003-5.jpg

pined and peaned ready for shaping

004-6.jpg

ok so the handle is shaped and sanded to 400 grit

001-9.jpg

then i take it one step further on the belt sander i use a wore out oiled 400 grit belt with buffing compound on it to make it a one buff step

002-4.jpg

ok in this shot i am showing how much the grain is raised with the staining of the wood the top one is stained and buffed the bottom one is just stained

003-6.jpg

the toung oil linseed oil in my special container kinda reminds you of buck and his jar of Vaseline in kill bill :)

006-4.jpg

so there pretty much done ill have to wipe the handles down again and give them a sharpening but that's it

007-4.jpg

they will be ready to ship Tuesday

Wow, right up until post 13 the layman might expect this project to be aborted, but as soon as you profile those handles it all comes together, very inspiring.
