Has anyone traded or sold knives they REALLY love for something they think they'd love better?

I'm torn.

I LOVE Allen Elishewitz Benchmade designs and I'd LOVE to buy an ACTUAL AE knife but they cost $450.

I've got some Microtechs that I totally love:
An Ultratech 6 that I traded 10 productions for and a LUDT I traded two good knives for. I REALLY love them both but they are the best chance out of my collection I have at getting an AE.

I'm SURE I'd TOTALLY miss them if I traded or sold them, but I'm SURE I'd LOVE getting a REAL AE.

I COULD save for the next 6 months for an AE and not have to give up my loved ones...

I don't know.

Has anyone ever been is this spot? I'm sure you have.
 
I sold a few of my production folders and bought a beautiful 19" damascus bowie. It was worth it! :D
 
I don't trade the ones I love. I usually find an alternative route to getting the one I like.

Nothing that is treated with love and tender loving care ever leaves my drawer for a stranger's home.:D
 
which Elishewitz model are you looking at?
My favorite so far is the Neo, long and sleek.
 
Yes, there are three knives that stick in my mind that I've traded-off that I'd like to have back:

Ontario Bagwell Hell's Belle.
Cold Steel Tai Pan.
REKAT Sifu.
 
I acquired my first Sebenza by nearly "trading away the store" with my favorite production knives. I knew that's what it would take to take a step up and get in the (Sebenza) game, so I did it and don't regret it. I recently sold a couple of knive for the cash to acquire a Ralph-Wilson Tactical Elite folder, and once again am extremely happy I did so.

I now have fewer folders, but more in quality than quantity, with zero regrets. Lately, I've been concentrating on fixed blades and have been well pleased with the results, having decided to forego any new purchases (or trades) for folders unless they are of higher quality. Not neccessarily customs, I've just decided to put an end to the impulse buying/trading habit that I had before. geegee
 
Before I trade I try to figure up how much it would cost and how dificult it would be to replace what I'm trading. I would save my money then you can have both.
 
If that is the only way you can get the AE, then it might well be worth it. I personally would rather have one really nice custom that I totally loved then some productions that I love a little less. I have a small Sebenza and a Camillus Dominator that I really really like, but I've been wanting a 29 Knives balisong for a long while and finally found one in stock somewhere. It's on it's way and I'll have to be selling the Sebenza and the Dom to pay for it. I will really miss them (especially the Sebenza) but my favorite knives are balisongs and getting to own a handmade balisong from one of my favorite makers is worth more to me then owning a couple of productions that I really like.
 
I keep selling the lower end of my collection to buy the ones I want, I only have 4 customs, 2 by Bud Nealy, 1 by Pat Crawford, and 1 by Anza.

No regrets I buy what I can afford or save till I can.
 
There's no particular AE I'm looking for. The more I think about it the more I think I'll just save for it instead of letting go of a loved one.

Sorry, I didn't mean to advertise my knives for sale, it was just pertenent to the topic being discussed. I apologize. :)

Save your folders if you think there's a chance you'll regret selling or trading them. Save them anyways.
 
You can ave your cake and eat it too. Save, save, save. If you really love the knives, then don't get rid of them. You'll be much happier if you take the time to save and then have the knives you love now plus the AE. Also, if you get the AE and no longer care for the others, you can always sell them then :D
