...but it was my Grail and it was more than worth it!!

I rarely post new threads, but my excitement tonight is through the roof and this is part of my celebration I suppose haha. Thanks to one of the members of this forum (and a class act all around), I was able to trade for a Grayman Dua, which was my "grail knife" ever since I first heard of them. I started this knife obsession and became a member of this forum just about a year ago and in that time I acquired over a dozen knives. As I learned more and more about them and my taste changed, my knife collection dwindled down to only a handful of my favorites. To make the deal happen I had to trade the majority of my collection for the Dua. I was a little hesitant at first to let go of some knives that I really did like, but this wasn't just any knife I was after...it was my grail.

The moment I opened that box and held it in my hand for the very first time, I was absolutely blown away! It felt amazing to hold and looked bada$$!! I still cannot believe I have it because I never thought I would be able to acquire one. I finally know how it feels to discover a new knife, consider it your "grail", think about it all the time and wonder if, when, how, you'll ever get it. Then when that day comes and it turns out to be even better than you hoped...well...I know a lot of you know exactly what I mean.

I'd definitely like to hear from anyone who'd like to share what they did to receive their dream knife. Did you trade for it or do anything extraordinary to acquire it? Most importantly...was it WORTH it like it was for me?? Did you trade a bunch of knives or pay a ton of cash only to realize your grail wasn't exactly what you had hoped it would be? Cause that was definitely something I wondered...would I get this knife and be sorry I gave up so much or would it be just like every other knife I got.

Of course, this thread would be nothing without pics!

I thought about one of those. I bet it's a stud in a small package. Still working on my grail though. Maker is still having issues getting orders out. I will keep waiting.....

3" Shamwari LCSF/TI FFG M390. One can only hope it comes through.

Glad you are happy with your Dua! I really like them, and am on the waiting list for a carbon fiber stonewash now. Don't know if they are my grail now, as to me that is kind of a moving target, but they were at one time. I just worked hard and saved up to afford mine.

That does look like a bad-to-the-bone blade.

Everything I have read about them is positive.

Enjoy!

p.s. - MORE pics

Beautiful knives bro! Id love to have multiples in each style but im more than ecstatic to have the one.

Thanks for reading and the replies so far everyone!

Sweet! Grayman knives are badder than a junkyard dog. Ride it hard, it can take it.

Congratulations!

I bought a Chris Reeves knife back in 1987, back when they were still South African made. Everyone thought I was crazy at the time to spend that much money, but I still have the knife and it's been all over the world with me. It's hard to explain the satisfaction of owning really good gear.

I can tell this one's going to be with you a long time.

Thanks for sharing...I had a similar situation when I laid everything out that I was planning on trading and my old lady thought I was out of my mind for trading so much for "just one knife." I tried to explain to her what I was giving up and what I was getting in return but everyone's (especially women's) brains are just wired differently haha.

And you're absolutely right...I plan on having this one for a very very long time!

Are you the first person around here to find "The One"?

Congrats!! :congratulatory:

The DUA with orange G10 is one of my favorite designs. It fits my large hand very nicely. It is sized (in the grip-length) between the small and large Sebenzas. I think that you picked a great folder. It's a good all-around blade-steel and is thick enough to handle any heavy-duty demands you might run into.
I'm happy for you.

i used to be the type that would have definitely kept this a safe queen. those days are gone. as beautiful and perfect as this knife is (in my opinion), it must be used. i think it will be more beautiful the more i use it!

thank you! and i must say that is one incredible collection you got going there! i never saw a dua with orange g10...very cool. as i mentioned I've only been interested in knives for a year so i still consider myself a rookie so to speak, and it wasn't until a month ago that i discovered grayman.

i never was all that interested in sebenza's, but i can see how grayman and sebenzas are similar. the three sisters is one that i always liked as well and considered pursuing. every knife I've ever purchased or traded for i assumed would be "the last one for a long time" but every single time i immediately started looking for the next one haha. i'm sure almost everyone on this forum can relate to that. i have to assume that now that i have what i considered my grail maybe this time i will be good for a while...but certainly there will be plenty more in my future and the three sisters may be one.

i agree with what you said...the dua seems to fit good even with large hands. that was my biggest concern...i thought it might be too small and i would want to pursue a satu, but i think it feels great and is perfect for edc. it looks like you take really good care of your knives. that is going to be a goal of mine now...to use this knife, but learn how to maintain it and take good care of it so it will last way longer than i do hahaha.

out of all those amazing knives, do you have a favorite?
