I have had good luck trading on the trade Forum. BUT When I list a $150 knife and get trade offers of $35 knives I get offended. Do these people think we are idiots. Common get real and don't waste our time.

Equal Value Please

Mike

Get used to it.There are a lot of little boys on these forums.

I'll make an observation the other way - I see lots of trade posts, and the "interest" list is a step above the items looking to trade away. Do people think they can "trade-up" to better knives?

I have offered a trade knife that is lower in retail value than the one up for trade before. Whats wrong with that. if I have a New in Box CRKT and someone has a used spyderco that they don't really want and they put at the bottom of their post "will consider other trades...blah blah...)" i'll go for it. I'm not trying to trick anyone just put up an offer. I've also traded down before. I had a knife that i know was worth about $100 and i traded it for a CRKT Ryan 7 because I liked the Ryan more. I've never been an a$$ to anyone that has offered me a trade that I don't like. after all i'm the one that put it up on a public forum. if you're that sick of it then don't offer it up for trade. Or include that in your trade post. there's no need to get bent out of shape about it or take it personally it's part of doing business here.

Brandon,

I don't have a problem trading up or down, within reason. Or up-down with cash. I DO have a problem with someone being so bold as to offer a NIB Cricket for a NIB LCC.

Let's everybody try to play nice! Comments are supposed to be directed to the forum at large.

I guess you can't blame a person for trying, but I think if you are looking to trade a $50.00 knife for a $150.00 one you should offer to throw a little cash in with the deal. That is, if you want the offer to be taken seriously.

Once again I prove that I can not spell so I edit.

It doesn't matter what you paid for the knife, only what the market is worth today. If you don't like the offer then just say so. this is the way trades work. People talk and eventually they come to an agreement. If you only want to hear about specific kinds of offers then state it in your post. But, keep in mind, that you are the one eliminating your potential market. In the long run you are going to get less that way.

So the guy offers you a CRK&T KISS for your NIB Sebenza. You are assumming the guy knows what a Sebenza is worth. It's your perogative to turn him away. Now if you talk to them you might get a counter offer that really knocks your socks off. But, don't worry about it... you rather just tell the guy to go away.

I totally agree with Not2Sharp. I am in the process of a deal, where the guy offered me a production knife for a custom I was trying to trade. When I explained how much I thought my knife was worth and how much I thought his knife was worth, he was willing to kick in two other knives to make up the difference. If I just blew him off, that would've been a little rude, and I wouldn't have gotten this trade deal. :) (Thanks Scott!)

A FAIR trade is when BOTH parties are HAPPY with what they ended up with. What is wrong with offering something. How do you know if I will take a BM 330 for an LCC? Offer it, and if it is a NO, I WILL ADVISE;) Just always show respect for each other and if you are honest in your dealings, THAT should be the BOTTOM LINE.....;) wolf

Maybe I'm missing something. All of your points are well taken. But it still seems to me low ball offers just slow things down. I do agree that a lot of this can be cured by posting with clear wording of what is expected.

Any item is worth what someone is willing to pay for it, and the seller is willing to sell it for. An offer for an item could be from what the prospective buyer thinks it's worth to what he can afford to spend. It could be that the offer comes from someone who doesn't know what the item is. Just because an offer seems low, it doesn't mean someone is trying to insult you or trying to be rude.

As Nifrand pointed out there are many young folks on here that have limited cash flow and their collection shows it, so they try to trade up to a knife, such as an LCC, it's an apple in their eye. They will learn but you are part of their teaching, ignoring them doesn't teach them, but as UWMitch says he ended up with a pretty good trade. Doesn't always happen. I trade quite a bit, in search of THAT one...you know :D, and lately my recent trades I've traded down pretty much but it does allow you to get to see some different knives and trading is a good way to meet people, just be fair in your dealings and it seems to work itself out a lot of the times. So when that guy/gal comes up with a FrostCutlerly for your Herman Sliver, just bring them up to speed as to the differences and politely say you can't trade for those...

ive traded up,and ive traded down.
ive had dozens of knives pass through my hands in the last year, some i kept, some i gave away, some i sold or traded.

for me its about what i like, and seeing what is out there.
just because a knife's MSRP isnt as high as another doesnt mean the quality of them arent the same...nor does it mean i wont like it as much, either.

this is pretty much a personal issue for people.. there is not right way ad wrong way to do anything - after all it is a free country and a faceless forum. I doubt many 'kids' would offer you a frost in person.

I do agree with G2 though trading is a good way to meet new friends and a way to educate others.. I wasa newbie once and I owe it to kind folks like G2 to be patient with my whippersnapperness...

you don't HAVE to answer annoying trade offers  (I sure dont when it gets me at a bad time of the day)

but to GRIPE I can't stand it when Mr. A B and C offer me 50 cold steel scimitars for my custom.

Guess we all get them sometimes....I think the listing of TRADE value would help solve part of the problem but that is considered selling. I dont see why ya cant simply say " I consider the (whatevers) trade value to be (whatever) and will consider all trades of this value..

Then there are those individuals who try to make a profit on every knife they trade and want cash in addition to the knife you offer to trade when you know that the two knives are of equal value. That really burns my butt. I fully understand that cash is in order when you're trading up to a more expensive knife but when I can go online and purchase the two knives in question for the same price, then the trade should be even, providing that the knives are in same condition.
