(lol, edit to add: this is in regards to a recent trade I made for a Scrap yard dog father, giving up my basic 9 to the person I initially got it from several years ago :D. Its just general rambling about the past knives I've owned as I slowly eek my way to finding the perfect mid sized heavy chopper.)

I have to say that overall I liked the basic 9 better. It felt more "refined". most of my problems come down to the handle. The larger basic series handles (b7 and b9) are a little thinner then the swamp rat old style handle thats used on the df, but they had 3 separate textures on them. the spine texture wich was rough like the swamp rats, the raised texutre wich was a little smoother, and the corregated area near the index finger. It doesnt seem like much, but it makes a huge difference. and I think the curve of the finger swell on the DF/old swamp rats is larger in heighth then the basic series.

Overall the grip feels more slipery, and not as comfortable. The blade is heavier and I think a little larger, making it more blade heavy.

Overall the basic 9 was a better users experience, but the dog father will probably chop a little better, and Because I dont like it as much visually and stylelistically - I'm much more likely to beat the crap out of it.

In the hand it feels just about the same as the hogfbmle, even though I know the hogfbmle chops better and weighs more.

I just wish I hadn't sold me hogfsh. I assumed that the hogfbmle would feel heavier in the hand based on its added size, but the magnum grips made it considerably and noticably more nuetral balanced then the hogfsh. The hogfsh was the heaviest most powerful feeling blade of its size I've ever held.

I'd really like to see what the hogfbmle would be like if it had standard scales...

and my kingdom for a ruck kensai!
