I have searched and cant see how it works,I want to follow the rules and not offend anyone.

It says don't put a price does that mean you just have to swap one for one?

Also I notice all the prices removed on the sold pages why is this?

I don't have a clue on values or all the model types at all and so cant even research.

Some pointers on how it all works would be nice, thank You.

No, you just can't put a sale price or trade value in your trade thread. You can trade 1 for 1, 1 for 2, 1 for 1 +some cash or other items. Whatever you and the other party agree to.

That is simply the seller's prerogative as there is no rule on it either way. As annoying as it may be, that ain't likely to change. There are many, many threads on the subject and they all go in circles and the rule stays the same in the end.

People will generally list what they have, so searching the internet is a pretty good way to glean the general value for most things.

Gold Members and above are allow to post on the forum asking about value of their knives. Basic Members and registered users are not. (Blame the people of the past that would do so in an underhanded way to try and sell without the proper membership.)

Check out the site rules. Reading through the Feedback Forum is one of the best ways to learn what to do and not to do. Here's the link: https://bladeforums.com/categories/the-knife-exchange.672/

When it comes down to it, just be polite, respectful, and treat others as you wish to be treated and things will easy.

I can't speak to your trade-related question, but this is a contentious topic of longstanding debate. It's up to individual members whether or not to leave prices up after a sale is made; this is the site owner's policy.

Here's a recent thread that may shed some light on why some folks do/don't leave prices up:

Taking both with a grain of salt (as is true with prices here, and anywhere), Ebay and Reddit are both potential sources of ballpark pricing. On Reddit, r/Knife_Swap mandates leaving prices up; on Ebay, you can search sold listings.

Thanks I am in the UK we cant use ebay for sharp things.

What I meant was without a trade price,or a price in a sold post I have no idea what the going rate is.

I have a feeling Northwoods are the most expensive or just certain models ( was drawn to them as they look easy to open and my hands are gash)?

I dont buy anything for its value in collecting but in its value as a tool to use for myself.

I am not trying to sell anything, but dont want to offend if I offer what I have got and then someone says I low balled them.

Other places make you put a trade value or come down on you,I am just trying to understand how it works.

thanks for the replys.

I wasn't suggesting you use Ebay to sell knives, just that it's one source of sold prices to help you ballpark values.

You can run a search for sold listings on Ebay without an account, and you can pick a different regional version of the site. I just confirmed that by opening the UK version in an incognito tab, and it worked fine. :)

you are cleverer than me I have no idea how to do that.

Load the .com version of the site rather than the .co.uk version (I used an incognito window so it wouldn't default to my regional site and log me in), select Advanced Search (on my browser that link is just to the right of the big blue Search button), type in your search term, and click the box for "Sold listings."

That will show you all of the items matching your search which actually sold, and their prices. (If someone accepted a best offer, that will be noted in the results but the offer price will not.) Searching sold listings as opposed to completed listings filters out all the folks with exorbitant prices whose items never sell.

Edited to add: You can also up your BF membership level to Gold, which would allow you to make posts asking for knife valuations. I've seen folks get some pretty solid advice that way.
