Trading Knives

Since I'm a FNG I'll ask a FNG question.

If another member and myself agree to swap knives, what is the proper way to do this?

Right now I am trading with another member. Both knives have about the same value making this an even trade. We each agreed to pay our own shipping costs. I send mine to him and he sends his to me, deal over. We have both mailed our knives already, according to our e-mails. I am going to guess that trust has alot to do with who you deal with. But I'm new, do you trust me, do I trust you?

I consider myself trustworthy (unless there's chocolate involed, then all bets are off

), and I read GB&U to see who's been bad or good. Are there any other tips or suggestions for this FNG when dealing with other BF members?

Thanks, Dale.

Generally, if a poster has been around awhile and has a high post count, he has been accepted. I just like to put trust in people. With the value of trades I make, the loss potential is not severe anyway.

just like RH, i too prefer to put trust in people. and, knife people are by far the friendliest, most trustworthy people as a whole, i think you will encounter, bar none.

good luck,

While a high post count helps it not the only thing. I used to go under the handle "thebladerunr" but decided I wanted to use my last name instead. So now it looks like I'm a new member rather than someone with hundreds of posts. BUT, for the most part you can pretty much trust the people around here because they like to come back time and again to further their hobby. Anyway, welcome aboard have fun and hang on tight!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have done ALOT of trading/buying/selling here at BladeForums, with NO PROBLEMS at all.

I suggest that you simply be honest in your deals, and "Karma" will be good to you in return.

Thats about the way it works, and there is really no "safety" for either one of you. Most people here are of good character, you've done everything you can to protect yourself, just always be prepared in the back of your mind to wage WWIII against the other party if it does go south.

I trust my fellow forumites (usually) without hesitation. If it's an fng i have seen around the entire site, then sure, ill make a deal.but if its someone who kinda sits in the fs/ft forum, then im not so quick. i have done a lot of trading here, and have NEVER been burned, one trade was a little scary, after i discovered (to both my,and the previous owner's dismay) that the liner on a knife i bought was malfunctioning, but we worked it out,and the knife will be fixed.
i have never been burned, and never burned anyone else (at least i hope they feel that way

)
besides, most (read:all) of my trades are for knives around or less than 100 bucks or so.so if someday i do get taken, then im not out a whole lot (sure, ill be pissed off),and the seller will never be able to show his face around here again.
it all works out.just have fatih in your neighbor.

have made a few trades w/no probs at all - would have to say that generally knife people=good people in my experience - but wow i was worried the first time, but i thought gee only $100 - all turned out fine, actually better than fine - traded a spyderco khalsa even for a BM stryker prototype w/carbon fiber handles - 1 helluva trade, and we were both happy too !!!!!

Hi Dale! Thanks alot for asking this question, because I was wondering about it too. Maybe I'll buy something soon, as some of the deals seem pretty good.

Hey, anybody got Hitler's dagger for trade? His stainless steel Luger keeps malfunctioning with my reloads and I'm so fed up with it.

I have done a lot of selling and trading on the forums and I have never run across anyone who was the least dishonest. If a person was dishonest, it would be really self defeating because who ever that person cheated could expose them on this forum and the other forum for that matter. I don't think anyone wants to be known as a thief. To all the new forum members, trading and selling is a great way to economize on your hobby. You can get rid of pieces that you have lost interest in and finance the new pieces you want. It also is a way of keeping a collection from getting too large. Finally, trade are really nice because both parties end getting something they really want without spending the cash. The exchange service is one of the bast aspect of Blade Forums IMHO.

I've had some dealings with members of this forum, and have to say that I've never run into anything but fine, upstanding gentlemen of their word here. While I'm sure that there are exceptions to this, I'm more inclined to trust than distrust. If I have a sneakin' suspicion, I look at the GBU forum.

A quick comment on post count and integrity: I have a relatively high post count, but since I never trade knives, nobody knows that I am really a low down dirty knife stealing scum

People who have been here a while and seem to value their participation here can probably be trusted. In the high dollar custom market, I have never heard of any deals going wrong.

However, there have been a number of individuals who seem to have taken forum members knives and money. Sometimes this seems to have been intentional and the member quickly developed a history of ripping folks off. Several people have been banned from the forums for engaging in apparently fraudulent deals. You can find out who these folks are (were) in the GBU forum. At least one such miscreant liked to prey on the good will and generosity of our members. It took a while for folks to realize they were being scammed.

So be careful. Know who you are dealing with, search names in the GBU forum, and hopefully everything will go smoothly. Communication is key. Spell out exactly what is expected from the other party, and arrange for a reasonable inspection and return period (3-7 days).

But you are basically on your own. BFC makes no guarantees that trades you make with other individuals will be satisfactory.

Good luck.

I am trading/traded a lot already, and i intend to keep doing so, because:

1. I'm European.knives cost twice as much here (no BS).
2. It seems to bring the people involvoed closer.

I never had problems with trading anything. basic rules: Always send your stuff, be honest. I usually add a gift, just for fun and because shipping is higher from USA to Here.

And I'm from Belgium, so chocolate is an excellent gift idea. I did a count once for a guy: 55 brands of chocolate, ranging from very exclusive to ordinairy, from handmade to mass production. Much like knives.
