I was in Wal Mart in Redding, CA yesterday and bought a Buck 110 Folding Hunter. The price was $28.97 for the knife plus $2.39 sales tax for an out of the door $31.36 price. I already have one of these great traditional lock backs but thought it couldn't hurt to get another one. However, I'm a bit shocked that one of the great traditional, lock back, folders, came bubble wrapped. It also came with a nylon sheath but I have a couple spare Buck 110 leather sheaths that will fit it just fine although the nylon sheath is first rate -- very well constructed.

Evidently, Wal Mart is doing away with their big knife display cases and require all manufactures to package their products so they can be hung on peg-board type hooks.

I'll be in Klamath Falls, OR this weekend and will pick up another one a little cheaper as OR doesn't have sales tax.

I haven't had my old Buck 110 out of my knife box for quite awhile and it was nice to handle one again. The fit and finish is superb with a great finish and it is very sharp right out of the box -- errrrrrrrrr, bubble wrap. I'm going to carry it today when I go to town.

I hope ya had a knife to cut that one free from its poly choride prison.:D

I picked one up about a month or so ago. I love it, been carrying almost everyday. I didn't like the nylon sheath when i first got it but have come to like it. I wear mine horizontal over my right back pocket.

...and not to hurt your self. According one medical study, 100,000 american's die or injure themselves badly when trying to open packages like those or generally plastic packages.

Most common reason of death: Heart infarct due stress opening, broken blood vessel in brain or sevear wounds from various edged and sharp tools.

I got one a couple years back at Wally World for 9, yes NINE, bucks. Like the Chevy/GMC Suburban/Tahoe/Yukon it is one helluva chunk of metal for the money even at 30.

While I like the 110 and other giant folders in the final analysis if I have to carry it in a pouch I'd rather carry a fixed plade in a low slung finnpouch sheath.

The one that walley world is selling is it a USA or China version? If this is a dumb question please forgive me? Thanks

It seems like many of Buck's knives are sold in that clamshell packaging now. I guess it's easier for the stores so they don't have to have someone behind a counter to "help" you. The bad thing about it is you can't inspect the knife before buying it. That's usually one of the perks of buying a knife in person.

It says made in USA with an American flag in the upper right corner of the packaging. AFAIK all of Buck's US made knives are marked as such somewhere on the package.

AFAIK the Chinese Bucks are not the iconic models but slips with wood (not black plastic) and tacticals. The newer USAs have an Idaho outline on the tang stamp.

I have a Chinese Buck canoe. Very nice but the spring yielded after about nine months. I'm sure Buck will replace it pdq but I used it as an excuse to get another knife.
