Now that my Opinel collection has gone down quite a bit, well, down to TWO, it does make it a little easier when I'm faced with the choice in the morning as which one to carry, certain days of the week I have designated as types of knives, so on Opinel day when I go to grab the car keys and I see the choices I have left for myself, I'm torn as to which one to carry, either one will do splendidly although they each have their own strengths, while one is far stronger and no contest, the other is delicate and a joy to use...decisions decisions ;)

So, I put this to you guys/gals, how do you decide which goes into the pocket/purse when you rise and shine? Or is it just second nature to always carry a certain one?

I'll leave you to guess as to which one see's more pocket carry in this scenario;

Being that I work six days a week in a suit and tie I find myself immediately going for my little Case peanut, which by virtue of a factory bail is connected to my mag lite solitaire.
On my rare days off I rotate through my "larger" knives that would otherwise cause a stir at work

Or if I'm feeling a little adventurous I take my Opinel with me

Haha :) I suppose it all comes down to the laws in whatever patch of dirt you happen to be residing on and the space in your pockets :P

I tend to be a one knife guy for periods of time where I'm infatuated with a particular knife. My damascus peanut went three years, My resolza is still being carried very often. Since April I haven't carried another knife but the Northwoods stockman. Last time I got infatuated with a stockman, it lasted for 25 years.

Haha R2, that is a serious Opinel my friend!!!

and Carl, I've seen that stockman of yours and that's what has me itching to get to GEC this Friday, as I'm thinking Stockman may be in my future, want to handle a few and see, always better before buying.

Thanks guys, keep em' coming

To make breakfast I have started using this 15. However, being a teacher and not wanting to be on the news, I don't carry at work. It feels like I am missing a shoe all day.

For the weekends I carry the 81 and a peanut.

For church I carry the African Blackwood.

Then I carry this one on it's production date.

Gary, for me my EDC and I do mean EVERY DAY CARRY for EVERY DAY for just over 13 months was my most prized Clip/Pen blade Gabon Ebony TC Barlow:thumbup:

For just over a year if I had pants on that day I carried my Barlow:thumbup: Often times the Barlow was carried with an additional knife---SAK, small fixed, whatever. After the 13 months came to an end my carry became more diversified, based upon the days work versus anything else.

Then I kind of re-discovered the Bull Nose and to me it is a GREAT work knife:thumbup: I wasn't really a one blade knife kinda guy---still prefer 2 blade knives but the Bull Nose is sooooo comfortable;)

Another knife that rises to the top when a day is dominated by cutting chores is my Scout on the #15 frame---this is a great work knife as well;)

So, in review---it was my EVERY DAY BARLOW for just over a year and today it is definitely more diversified;)

And on the other days, the ones without pants...?!

:D

-- You have excellent taste, Paul. I'm still regretting not jumping on what I call the "Hershey Bar" scout, 2-blades, when it first came out.

I used to have them laid out and try to choose what I was going to carry each morning. That got to be a bit of an undertaking and I started putting most my blades in my storage drawers where they were out of sight with exception to a couple. That made it easier to choose from just a couple. I then started carrying a tiny flashlight and needed some place to clip it other than my pockets since I already have a large folder, pen and pocket pistol occupying most of my pockets. I found a small felt pocket knife slip that I put a knife in and clip the flashlight to that, makes pocket carry easy. Once I did that and slipped a Bullnose in there it's just auto pilot now, just pick up what's already loaded in the pouch. I make an effort to swap out once in a blue moon but the Tan canvas Bullnose has been hogging my pocket time lately. Love the ginormous Opinal, looks like it would fit nicely in the coin pocket of your jeans:D

On the days without pants, a knife is never required for the day's intended endeavors.:o  ;)

And Gary, I have a slight case of Opinel-envy.

How times have changed. All the crazy things that happened on 9-11-2001 ended a lot of pleasures we all used to take for granted. And a lot of other crazy things happening around our schools added to that. I remember my 5th grade teacher, who used to like to whittle out on the playground and some of us kids would pull out our Scout knives and learn a bit. ;)

That was an excellent choice for the 13 months Paul.:thumbup::)

I pick out 3 or 4 knives then hold them down & ask my 2.5 year old "which one"? Then he picks one out & gets all excited about his choice. I love this routine because its introducing him to my hobby & also every time I use my knife throughout the day it makes me think about him & his giant smile as he's picking it out. He picked out this Boker stockman today which is one of my most prized knives as it is the first knife my then fiancé ever bought me & also the knife I carried the day we got married.

Since November if I've had a knife on me it's been the 81 stockman. I add a 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc if need be and the 15 is a usual friend.

The answer is an easy one for me. GEC 73 with stag covers. It was a present from my wife and daughter a couple of years back and it's gotten the lion's share of pocket time ever since.

...And Gary, I have a slight case of Opinel-envy.

That's ok, so do the folks at work, and believe it or not, that #13 Opinel comes in very handy, mainly at home. As I use foam I get from work to ship stuff out, sometimes I need to slice a priority box size piece of foam in half, that knife makes quick and easy work of that.

I've had guys at work that wanted to buy it off me, it's just BIG and cool...

and guys, Very nice stuff you have to choose from, that GEC 81 is also one I'm wanting to see if I get down there this Friday.

 I love this method of choosing.

I often work at home so I rarely have needs that vary from day to day. My morning selection process is to simply choose from one of about a dozen or so favorites that happens to catch my fancy that day. I try to rotate them as much as possible but I'll admit I'm drawn to the same three or four knives fairly often. As I've said in other threads, I like having a carbon and a stainless on me. I'm on of those oddballs who doesn't care for the aesthetics of a patina so the stainless gets used for cutting foodstuff and the carbon for everything else. It's also an excuse to carry two favorites rather than just one. I always like to have a choice. :D

Hopefully.

I am just the opposite of you raptureraptor. I work in Kentucky and Bucks on belts are not uncommon. I carry bigger at work and have a leetle knife in my watch pocket other times.

I trimmed my knives down to three, one locker and two traditional’s. Makes the choice much easier, one of the three is in my pocket nearly all the time.
