I've been planning a trip to one of the Pennsylvania knife factories for a vacation, for some time. While I dream and plan, I'd like to read about our members visits to the companies that produce our dear old timey knives.

Buck, Canal Street, Great Eastern, Queen, Case, any others that produce old timey folders and fixed blades. Those gone and hopefully not forgotten, too. Camillus, Schrade and all those that went into the night. Our international pals are welcome too, as long as it stays traditional. If you have a question about whether it's traditional or not, chances are it might not be. I'd like to hear your tales, see your pics, and hopefully, watch your videos. I've always had a great time visiting knife makers shops, and I'd like to one day take a road trip to the three factories in PA. In reference to the old factories, I read in this forum about one of our members, a mod I believe, that fished on the banks near an old factory. If you have the remains and memories of an old factory, I am interested in that too. Knife World has run some great stories about old and defunct factory locations, where the iron works are visible through the weeds and trees. I know that some of our members that make knives for a living have gone to the factories. I look forward to any videos you might share also ;).

Thank you for sharing your personal experiences.

Well, If you lived closer.......The Buck Collectors Club is having a big time 3 day shin-dig in late July at the Buck Factory in Idaho. Seminars, special knife deals, super special factory tours, banquet, lunches at the factory, meet and greet big-shots and big cookout at Chuck Bucks home. You do have to be a BCCI member. Info for members is on the club website. When its over I promise to have photos and stories.

Anyone else going by the factory can arrange for the regular factory tour which begins at the factory 'store'.

I'm a real fanboy of all things PA. I made a pilgrimage to Titusville last summer, and I plan on visiting again this year. Of course I stopped at both Queen and GEC. I couldn't get a tour of Queen, not really sure if they do tours, but GEC was delightful. Everyone was super friendly, they spent a ton of time with me, showed me the entire operation, cleaned and sharpened my #23, showed me a bunch of knives in the little store, gave me a book on the history of the place. It was really great. I could talk about my trip for hours over a beer or coffee... like I said, I really love PA. I stayed in an old CCC campground that was nearly empty... should I tell you? Loleta. It was a delight. Ah, I can't wait to go back!!!

I live in Eastern PA so Queen, Case and GEC are a long long way away. As much as I'd love to tour those factories, I just know my family would be bored to tears.

Pennsylvania is pretty amazing with regards to manufacturing. Besides the above-mentioned knife companies, we've got Zippo, Martin Guitars, RGM watches and more being manufactured here.

Toured the Schrade factory in '82 on my honeymoon, ya can imagine how that went over, wish I knew then their fate, I woulda invested in more Schrades.

Great impromptu tour, everyone was very nice and extremely accommodating, I had a great time on my honeymoon of course the wife would say different.

Pm me, I'll go, I'll get the bike and go, I'm right down the road from the Delaware Watergap, there are a few of us in this neck of the woods, we should plan road trip, shotgun!!!

You guys and gals that live close to the GEC/Case/Queen factories are lucky!
Man, I would love to visit!
Some day, some day....

My thought as well... but it would be a journey half around the world. And it would definitelly worth the time of travelling.

Queen, before the Ownership change, had an Open House every other year. Case has their Open House once a year. Great Eastern Cutlery has a "Rendezvous" once a year. Now,if you catch the right weekend and year, they are all on the same weekend,mid-july. You can concievably hit all three places in one weekend. Otherwise,GEC will give you a tour of their Factory, any Work Day if you arrive before 2 PM. GEC is UNBELIVABLE! I couldn't belive that any thing in this country was still made the way they make these knives!

I'm hoping to hit GEC soon, but am usually only up that way on the weekend. I'll have to email them and see if they do anything on Saturdays. My MIL is only about 1/2hr away from them. Might be doing a weekend hiking trip up near Tidioute in Sept too if that all works out. Would be really neat being in the same town that is on a few of my knives!

Google maps shows that it is about 5 minutes to get from the Queen factory to the GEC factory? About two hours tops to get from those factories to the Case factory.

Unfortunately, all three factories are about 6 hours from me. At least I can try to get to all three over a long weekend.

Case offers factory tours for members of the Case Collectors Club with advance scheduling, but they have currently suspended their factory tours since they are in the process of renovating and expanding their production facilities.

From their announcement, which was posted to the CCC Forums on January 29th:
"As a part of our continuous improvement process and our ongoing effort to maintain the high quality standards of Case knives, Case will be making significant changes to manufacturing operations. During this time, visitors will not be allowed to tour our factory, mainly due to the interests of safety for our guests and employees."
