Traditional fixed blade fever

So a few months ago I ordered an Izula (I know it's not traditional, wait for it) just to try out a small fixed blade. I've had other, longer fixed blades before but never really used them for anything other than gardening. I liked it a lot, but wanted something more traditional (told you it was coming). I remember having a Schrade Sharpfinger when I was young, but traded it off for a Kabar way back in the early 90s. I decided that I had to have another one.

I scored one from popular auction site, but it turned out to have a bent blade; I think someone used it as a prybar. It also had the telltale signs that it was used as an emergency screwdriver. I sent it back and should get another one today that looks to be in great shape.

Meantime, from the trade forum I got a 154 drop point from another member. It is used, and has been aggressively sharpened, but I kind of love it. I'm really excited to get the 152, which I think looks classier than the drop point, though I don't know which one I'll like better.

I'm excited to get a cool older knife like this. WV lets you carry a fixed blade so long as it's under 3.5", and these both fit the bill nicely. I'll try to put some pictures up tomorrow.

Here's an attempt to post a few pics. The Sharpfinger I wound up with seems new; it doesn't look like it was ever used or sharpened. I am disappointed with the sheath though; it feels so much cheaper than the 154's, and seems to be lined with cardboard. Is this just me, or is that odd? Maybe it's a replacement sheath; I don't know. The knife itself is pristine though, razor sharp. I'm on the fence about whether or not to carry it or safely stow it away.

Carry it! It was made for hunting and thirsts for blood...sorry, got carried away.

Welcome to the Old Timer club. :)

There weren't a lot of Old Timer fixed blade models, but there were a few. It seems the Sharpfinger was the most popular. Other models such as this 14OT were only made for a few years and in small numbers.

And if you think this was hard to come by, try searching for a 13OT or 41OT. ;)

I saw a Sharpfinger with a similar pouch sheath. I'm sorry I let that one get away. My sheath seems particularly poorly made. Maybe it's time for a custom sheath. I love the knife itself and hope to carry it this summer.

Nice knife! A 152 was the first fixed blade I got back when I was a kid. Cool little knife. I still have it and my sheath looks fine. It's a lot darker like the once on the right in your pic. Maybe you got a replacement sheath?
