Is it just me or does anyone else keep grabbing for those old beloved traditional fixed blades such as the 119, the 105 and the 102 even though there may be a house full of better knives?

My old 119 was what started my affection for fixed blades. Even though it was larger than I needed for just about everything I did with it, it was my favorite outdoor knife. I gut deer, limbed, whittled, cut food, cooked and did just about everything else you could think of to do with a knife with that 119 Special. I keep it and a Pathfinder and a Woodsman handy in the kitchen and find myseld reaching for those old favoites often.

Agreed. The 105 Pathfinder makes a great kitchen knife! I use mine all the time.

See my post: Buck and 440-C?

I feel that those traditional Bucks are as good or better as modern knives in the same price range, the designs are good, the materials are good and modern (I mean it´s not like you can get a 119 in 1095 with a leather washer handle, though I sure wouldn´t mind having one like that).

My 105 is 425M and sees use in the kitchen too.

For the last couple decades a Woodsman has been on my belt for woods walking and canoe/camping. I've had higher priced and status knives, but they did'nt cut any better than the Buck.

I still have a 301 stockman that has been a companion for 20 years.

i have all the old bucks , from the general on down to the caper. they do it all. the 105 is the beast one yet. does everything, 5 inch blade, thank god and buck

I gotta admit, my 119 is one of my favorites. I have a half dozen of them. My first real sheath knife was a 119, which is,after all this time, practically brand new looking. I think it is a really attractive design.
I do have to admit, though, I obtained a Bog Dog from Swamprat knifeworks awhile back, which has been joining my 119 as a constant companion. When I am doing something that pretty much guarantees I will have to 'push' the knife, I use my 119,the Bog Dog or a folding hunter. They just do not quit. Plus, I have never had a rust problem with the 119, even when the knife was out overnight in a hurricane.
Most of my more expensive knives, such as my SwampRat Satin Rat, do not mix well with water.
I also like Buck's leather. The sheath knives have always come in high quality cow pants.

It makes a pretty good sandwich knife:
