I have been wanting a good traditional edc blade for a while. I really like some of the gec models but im not sure which ones are good. I would like the knife to have a lanyard hole and want to keep it around 100$. Any reccomendations would be appreciated.

A traditional with a lanyard hole....hmm.

I don't know. Perhaps ask in the traditional subforum. Those guys know their stuff.

Greetings from a fellow central Texan!

I'm fairly new to the traditional market myself, but can offer a little help. I know the 42s and 83s have lanyard holes, as well as some 23s and 72s, IIRC.

As far as which ones are good; well the vast majority will tell you it's hard to go wrong with GEC in general.

I only have one, a 42, but have been very impressed with it.

The #71 Bull Nose is a great knife, had a lanyard hole and should come in well under your budget. Here are a few from the run they did this last year:

The OD Green Linen Micarta is my favorite.

There's also the larger #21 Bull Buster, but I find the size of the #71 to be just about perfect.

+1 on the 71, it's a really easy knife to love. Very sturdy, just right size, great blade shape and you can pinch it open if you're wearing gloves!

I like larger knives, so I opted for the 21 Bull Buster over the 71 Bullnose. It is a great knife and I don't think you'd be disappointed.

Another option would be the Queen Mountain Man, which is about the same length as the 21 Bull Buster. They're about 4.5" long.

The Queen Ruple Trapper in single blade has a lanyard hole built into the bolster, which is kind of unique. It'll be a little over your budget, though.

One big benefit to the Queens is that they're in D2 as opposed to GECs 1095.

GEcc 83 is pretty small, but a great knife nonetheless:

Everybody has their own personal likes and dislikes in a knife... but what's the deal with a lanyard hole? Once you have a lanyard tied onto your knife, what do you do with it?

GEC Tascosa Lockback if you want a smaller knife, #73 Scout if you want a medium knife, Missouri if you want a medium-large knife, and the #23 Pioneer if you want a big sucker. I think all of these have been made with lanyard holes, though at least the 73s it varies between production runs. These are all the traditional "trapper" style knives.

My choice is the GEC #72 lock back. It has a lanyard hole. I find that attaching a short section(1 1/2") of braided 505 cord to the lanyard hole makes it very easy to extract the knife from my pocket sheath.

Personally, I think the lanyard hole/lanyard balances out the aesthetics of a barehead knife. On smaller knives like the 83, I keep the loop the right size to slip my pinky though and turn a 3 finger grip into a very secure 4 finger grip.

Do they make this knife in a larger size?

Thanks!

The 83, 72, 42, and 23 are all different sizes of that same basic shape. They're listed smallest to largest.

Northfield versions by GEC will have the lined (threaded) bolster and the long pull with cut swedge, the Tidioute versions by GEC will have a nail nick and a drawn swedge.

It kind of helps with drawing the knife out ouf a pocket, but thereare some cool looking lanyard beads out there that just look really nice.

Someone mentioned the 47s, but its especially worth noting that there is a new run of the 47 vipers coming out probably within the next month or two.
