Hi,
I want a traditional folding hunter and I can't make up my mind which one to buy.
I'm taken by the Queen range with D2 blades but I wasn't sure whether they came with a leather pouch as do most of the competition.
Alternatively has anyone used the Marbles folding hunter and if so are they any good?
As ever all help gratefully received.
Tack

I have a Schatt & Morgan Lockback that is really well made. Kinda like a Remington 1306 but in bone. I think those may be made by Queen. No pouch came with it. The Bone is great, locks up great and has a huge thong hole. I love the knife...cant beat it for the price.

I have a Case folding hunter two blade from 1971, which has been in my family since is was bought in 1971. I like it, and have used it many, many times. However, since it is overly large, I pretty much only carry it on hunting trips. It has to compete with a buck 110 and now two new jumbo trappers from moore maker, so it may stay home next time. I think I'd like to give the big trappers a try. The kids, who are now old enough to clean game, prefer the buck 110 because it's a lockback. They think lockbacks are naturally superior, but then their brains haven't grown all the way in yet.

But, there are a lot of Case folding hunters around, and they are good knives.

I have the Queen twin blade folding hunter in birdseye maple. It did not come with the pouch though. It's a very nice knife and came reasonably sharp out of the box, thank goodness. Someday I may thin the blades a little, but if it will cut well and hold the edge as D2 should, and I actually start using it much, I may just leave things as they are since some heavier work fits its job description. I've gotten away from the larger lockbacks, though the Mountain Man I like the look of. Instead I've gotten the bug for the old fashioned, non-locking folding hunter.

I think the Case folding hunter comes with a leather sheath with the Case name on it.

Oh and thanks for the link LC - that thing calls itself a locking single blade TRAPPER so now I have to buy one of those as well. So many trappers, so little cash.

I'm not sure why they call it that, it's the same as a Queen #3L Mountain Man.

I think I linked to the wrong knife though, are you wanting the 2 blade "folding hunter" that doesn't lock?

The Cold Steel Folding Hunter has good Carbon V blades and comes with a leather pouch. If you don't mind the faux bone scales (and can find one) it's a very good knife (made by Camillus).

Otherwise, I highly recommend the Queen offerings in which case it'd be worth getting yourself a belt pouch.

Hi,
Thanks for all the replies and the tremendous advice.
Queen it is then. Just got to decide what handles to have. I already have several knives in stag or jigged bone. I rather like the look of the cocobolo and the birds eye maple.....ah, choices...I love 'em.

I wish Queen would update their site. I was in love with the Cocobolo. I like the yellow bone Moore Maker in 1095 but at $110, I ended up buying a Rootbeer bone 1095 from Cumberland $69. Ordered last Sunday, I hope to get it today! I'll make my own sheath.

To me, the Q MM is a folding hunter. I was looking at Puma, Buck, Boker but wanted something even move traditional looking, and 1095 - Queen Mountain Man. Of course the D2's are more common.

I'm on the list for a Dozier Folding Hunter. It's gonna be a long wait but worth it.

This matter has been amicably resolved and is a non issue.
