Now I won't swear to this, but in my readings of the various and numerous posts in this forum it seems that the term dandy has become a true mainstay in terms of expressing high approval () of a knife or knives exhibited in any given thread.

Main Entry: 1dan·dy
Pronunciation: \ˈdan-dē\
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural dandies
Etymology: probably short for jack-a-dandy, from 1jack + a (of) + dandy (origin unknown)
Date: circa 1780
1 : a man who gives exaggerated attention to personal appearance
2 : something excellent in its class

I'd say that the word/term swedge shows up pretty regularly too but it is more of a technical term rather than folksy per se.

So, what other folksy terms do do you come across on a regular basis in this forum that would be part of the Traditional Forum Folksy Lexicon?

Perfect, Peter!

(And while we're alliterating with "P's", I'm sure there must be something about "purses" and "pouches" out there. ;)

How about 'slipjoint'? Is there a definitive origin of the term? It seems to me that the joint is stationary, but the tang 'slips' across a portion of the spring hence we see 'walk and talk' and 'snap' appearing on a fairly regular basis.

SK, This is my take on your statement. The Pivot Pin is stationary. The Tang Pivot on that pin, where the tang meets the back spring is the joint. When the Blade and Tang are moved open or closed on the pivot the tang back slips on the spring. Hence Slipjoint Knife. It could as easily be called a slide joint knife.:D Mr. Bernard Levine says Slipjoint is a silly term and when he first heard it he didn't know what it meant. I'm older man and have been around pocket knives since childhood. I don't remember first time I heard Slipjoint my memory doesn't serve me well but I fully understand term. Silly or not..

I reckon you're right, Vince.

I also reckon that we'll have more fun with this thread if we don't get too serious but hey, if we actually get some learnin' done I reckon that'd be a good thing too. ;)

For Bone,"purdy" bone
For peachseed jig bone,"peachy"

Now Vince, I live in a "holler" as in "Possum Holler" so I reckon we'll have to be clear what all kinda holler we're referencin'. ;)

Hmmm. I reckon' I didn't pay much mind to it

Ain't it so..

Mighty fine thought Elliott.... It got the ol' thinker ta workin this mornin.

Must not be workin to good though, because I can't come up with any bodacious idears...

Darrell, I like your "sig line" but somehow I think equanimity ain't gonna make it into the folksy lexicon. ;)

Well Mike, given your profession, I ain't got no truck with that. :p

Darn I must be past folksy. I always thought it was Jim dandy.

Bill,

According to this definition...:

Etymology: probably short for jack-a-dandy, from 1jack + a (of) + dandy (origin unknown)

...it would indicate that you don't know jack. :p
