I just got my first hawk yesterday, an Ontario RD-Hawk w/pick. Now while I like it, though I've not had a chance to test it out yet, I would still like to have a more traditional hawk. For many, many, many years, I was a folder buyer, and still am to a degree, but have found myself buying more and more fixed bladed knives. More and more to me is 6 fb's so far. I have been wanting a hawk for a while now, and since first seeing the RD-hawk, I wanted to get it. But I also would like to have the more traditional hawk that a lot of you folks show pics of. Now, where is the best place to begin? I will use it for trail hiking, and some camping, but I may be tempted to throw it a bit also. I figure I would go around the $100 mark, up or down depending on what I find out from this forum.
So again, should I start off with a Cold Steel hawk to get the feel of a hawk, or should I start a little bit higher. I have no problem working with my hands to improve the "problems" with the Cold Steel hawks that I have read about. Any and all advice is really appreciated!
