i would like to get a traditional jack knife as a user for outdoor jobs, preferably with antler or stag bone handle, sturdy, attractive and sharp.
i notice that Queen Cutlery has numerous models; single/double/multiple blades; single ended and double ended, all in D2 steel.
i would like to hear from folks who own one of these knives and what they like or dislike about it. any other manufacturers (besides S&M) making good quality knives like these ?

There's a subforum here titled "Traditional Folders and Fixed Blades." You should ask your question there, they specialize in this type of folder.

I myself would pick up a stag handled Eye Brand stockman. I have one myself and it's a great knife. Beautiful, and utterly useful.

It sounds like you want a slipjoint, but i would look into a custom Buck 110. Check out Case knives as well as the traditionals forum, i'm sure you'll find something.

I have a number of Queen slipjoints. I really like the D2, it holds an edge very well. They frequently come with rather obtuse edges, which I have reprofiled and convexed. That's a pain to do with D2, but now they are really good. Occasionally a Queen will have a little blade play. As a whole, I would highly recommend one.

I have a Queen D2 Stag Large Congress. One of the best knives I own! Fit and finish is great. D2 takes a super sharp edge and keeps it. It will take some work to get it sharp out of the box but it's worth it. My Schatt and Morgan Harness Jack in 1095 is just as nice and is easier to sharpen. Unfortunately 1095 doesn't hold the shaving sharp edge near as long a s D2.

As others have said the Queen D-2 is an exellent choice. Also in a traditional Jack check out the File & Wire line of Schatt & Morgan, also made by Queen. Bone handles, great F/F with ATS-34 steel.

Choices, Choices, Choices...

I just picked up an amber bone jack knife by case with CV rather than SS. It is shaving sharp and you can pick one up for around 35 bucks. I have some Queens but they came pretty dull out of the box and I don't trust myself to sharpen them. We won't even get into the last knife I sharpened. We'll just say it has no edge left.

Oh, I forgot to mention. One of my favorites is a Schrade 330 Old Timer. Can't beat them if you like an old classic.

well, i just ordered an eye brand sod buster with saw blade and stag handle, but still am looking at queen knives, esp. premium trapper with the razor blade.

I have a Queen whittler in D2. Great knife. F&F were just fine, but the edge angle was a little obtuse for me, so I redid the bevel. My only other issue with this particular knife, is that it's a nailbreaker! I've had one's that were tough to open, but the main blade on this really doesn't like to open. It may be due to the split backspring though.

I picked up a red bone Case CV stockman not too long ago also. It's been in my pocket almost everyday. ;)

I've been looking at that knife for some time now. I would really appreciate any info on how it performs in the field.

Best of luck,
Kevin

Kevin - I have that Eye Brand sodbuster with saw and stag handles, it's a great knife. Fit and finish leave a little to be desired, but the blade is great and the saw works very well.

As far as Jack knives go, the one that always catches my eye is the older Case red bone 6292. I like that red bone.
