I have purchased two knives from Kanetsune Seki,(with one on the way), they are sent directly from Japan and they are amazing. Nothing can touch these blades for the money. Handforged in white or blue steel and VERY sharp. The "Kage Large" is in now residing in my safe and it is a thing of beauty, along with the "Sazamami". The best part is the price: both on sale for under $100 US...........................Merry Christmas.........Frank

I've had a hunter from his series with a cherry wood handle for about a year now. The workmanship is great, especially the grinds. Where it doesn't need work, it's left untouched.

The Blue steel is wonderfull stuff. I love it. It's a clean steel, and takes and keeps a great edge. I like it better than the White steel, which is also good. The price is pretty good for a knife imported from Japan. Joe

Cool site but none of the Kanetsu knives spoke to my soul. I find it kind of sad that a japanese knife maker has to make knives with american tanto points.
I love the hammerd finish though and the prices were good.
One knife that really did speak to my soul was the Hattori black fighter.
Sexy ,priced right 150$US and out of stock.

I did not see any Kanetsune with Cold Steel Tanto points - Mcusta doing this, but Kanetsune seems to do original Japanes knives, with sharp tip and convex grind.

I doubt they are hand forged - suminogash is so popular because Japanes manage to make them in mass production. But they manage to make mass production on custom quality level. And Shirogamy or Aogamy is pretty good steels.

Only thing I do not like - sheath, it is like rattle! For hunting knife it is pretty strange feature.

This is one I have:

That pattern on the side - I do not really know what it is - looks like imitation of hand forging for me.

Thanks, Vassili.

There are several knives by Kanetsune with the ameritanto point including
the samurai and the katana(the ones with the silly names) and a few others as well.
I did not think it was hand hammered ,it is probably how the raw steel comes like
and they just don't touch it at all.
There is this hitachi special blue steel that I have never seen other than in print but it has the most vanadium and other cool steel additives of any non stainless I have ever heard of.

Aogami is pretty much Shirogami with W added:

C=1.3
Mn=0.2
P=0.025
Si=0.1
S=0.04
Cr=0.2-0.5%
W=1-1.5%

Shirogami

C=1.3
Mn=0.2
P=0.025
Si=0.1
S=0.04

They both do not have Vanadium.

You can find Higonokamy made out of Aogamy for about $20 here in US - google it. Also www.dick.bis selling blanks of both Shirogami and Aogami.

Thanks, Vassili.
