Just a thought. A lot of people still have a lot of questions about what is a traditional (slipjoint/fixed blade) knife. I was thinking we could post The Traditional Knife of the Week thread. Each monday someone start a thread on a traditional knife and everyone could post pics and info on this knife. Tell why you like/dislike this type of knife, some history on it, and if you use or just collect it. This would not be about a particular maker but pattern or style of knife. But makers could come and show of there interprutation of each knife discussed. If someone started a thread on stockman then all week we could show off and talk about the stockman.... This could prove to be a well of knowledge for those interested in traditional knives. So what do you all think? Traditional Knife of the Week Thread start the first monday of the new year if there is any interest...

Great idea 3nails! Since you had the idea are you volunteering to start? I make the first Monday of 03 the 6th. Would be fun to have a thread on a single pattern!

Great idea. I'll chip in after giving everyone else a chance :D.

You folks have seen a lot of my stuff anyway.

(With apologies to Carly Simon...) Man, I gotta wait all the way to the Sixth of January 2003 to see some pics of Gus' and Nifrand's stuff? Ahhhh, it will be worth it! Great idea about the knife of the week/month thingie. Should be a good education on the multitude of patterns out there. Heck, if it wasn't for this place... I wouldn't even know the joy of a spatula Dr. pattern, and a wharncliff whittler, and...... the list goes on.
Looking forward to the sixth...

First knife of the week went ok. It seems that the congress is more regional than I thought. Hopefully someone else will start the next thread on the 13th. Let's keep it going. I'm sure we'll hit a knife that will fire this place up. I really enjoy traditionals and would like to see them get the place dew them.

Thanks Dean

I don't know enough to really start the thread, but I wouls sure like to see one on one of the odd shaped folders, like elephant toes or sunfish.

I really like this idea, do not let folks with a little experience keep you from posting. Pick a pattern and toss it in here. Folks will add what they know to the thread. We can all learn from each other and have some fun. Jerry - go ahead and start one on Sunfish.

I second Ed T's and Gus Kalanzis' motions on the Sunfish. I have become a bit of an enthusiast about this pattern, both as a "collector" and as a "user". (In fact, I may be one of the last living individuals who carry a Sunfish [4 inches closed] as an EDC!) I would very much appreciate learning more about this fine old pattern.

Ed T look like you are on! I would like to hear more on the SUnfish and Toenail as I know next to nothing on these patterns
