Traditional Leather Boots

I'm looking for a pair of high quality traditional leather boots, something similar to the Filsons pictured below. Here is what I'm after: all leather, able to be re-soled (preferably vibram), high quality (American made would be nice), no insulation, no GoreTex, and general purpose (I'm not after a dedicated backpacking boot or a work boot).

The Filsons are the closest I've found. I like the seamless toes, but with Filson the seamless version is insulated; whereas the uninsulated version has the seams. They are also imported. I know some of the European bootmakers make dedicated all-leather backpacking boots (Zamberlan, Raichle, etc.). But they are a little clunkier than I'm looking for.

Does anyone have recommendation and/or links they can pass along.

Thanks.

The Mason Fin & Feather series of boots are quite nice. I have an 8" pair with vibram soles and like them very much.

Whites! Their Smoke JUmpers are about all I wear. Just google Whites boots.

They have no insulation, no gore tex, no BS. Totaly resoleable and whites will even rebuild em once you beat the tar out of em. Which will take a few years.

Most comfortable boots I've ev er worn bar none.

Anybody know anything about Wesco boots? I ordered the White's catalog and they appear to have blown me off. So I ordered the free DVD and catalog from Wesco. Hoping it arrives early next week. Which of the two is better? Anyone know? Wesco has a comparison between them and their "competition" and they never name names. Are they talking about White's? These boots are quite an investment. I don't want to make any mistakes at this level. These are made to order and non-refundable. Big decision... :o

L.L. Bean Cresta hikers. Check out the reviews on trailspace and L.L. Bean.
The old Merrell Wilderness was always a great boot. I wore them when I lived in Va.

Harry. White's hasn't blown ya off. My last catalog took about two months to get to me. Try contcting them again. You can also find them at some retailers. Look for the folks localy who carry construction clothing (my local retailer is a farm supply store)

Haven't heard of Wesco. Whites competition used to be Buffalo loggers.

These are great recommendations so far. I'm especially interested in the Russell Moccasins and Whites. Any particular models stand out in their lines for those that have them?

Thanks, I'll take a look at those models. I did send for a RM catalog too.

Whites x a lot.
I have some lace up packers and some hunters.
I would like to try a set of Russels though.

Go to your local Walmart (or their website) and try on a pair of their boots on the "Logger" pattern. About $60-$70. Cabelas sells the same Loggers for about three times that much. I have over two dozen pair of outdoor boots, and these are my top choice for dry weather (The leather is so pretty I can't bring myself to apply Sno-seal.)

I just use saddle soap, and they look new again. (I have 3 pair).

Those Whites look impressive. The best boots that I have ever owned is a pair of Asolos. I think I had them for about ten years, although the last half they were used for yard duty. I also have a pair of their trail shoes which have also been a great buy.
