I just love this type of knife, and have started to collect a few.

Sub 3" blades - preferably slip joint.

Who else makes them??? What makers should I be looking at?

I like your knives a lot.

I have knives of that type from PJ Tomes, Tony Bose two very fine makers. I have something special coming from a friend of mine Tim Herman, who isn't known for making slippies. I know this knife will be perfect, because Tim doesn't know how to make a knife any other way.

Another maker on the top of my wish list is Bill Ruple, his work just floors me.

Very nice gathering Rod !

I periodically kick myself for not snaggin' a Whitewing. But. . .I do vision one in my gathering, one day ! :D

I've been watching Ray Cover's work and I really like his style. It's very clean, yet simple.

Ruple's work is absolutely superb ! I recently picked up one of his whittler's. . . . .awesome - awesome stuff !

I cannot find even the tiniest thing that I don't like about them or the workmanship. Flawless! And they are so reasonably priced too!

(The Gold-lipped Pearl Cover has been in my pocket all day)

I'm waiting for 2 Covers that I ordered in November 2003. I can't wait to get 'em!

One of my favorite makers is Tony Huffman. I was lucky enough to pick these up some time ago. I understand from a recent post that he has stopped making knives for awhile.

Thomason, I had one of Tony's early gunstock folders and I regret ever selling it. Nice knife for sure!

I'm a big fan of the Cover family's knives. Pictured here are 3 Covers, two from Ray and one from his son Jeff. The big Amber Bone at 6:30 is my most carried SJ.

Believe it or not there's a knife maker who possibly represents a better value in SJ's than Ray - Gary Crowder. The 3 pictured all cost a little less than the Ray Covers I own and every bit as nice (that's saying a lot). For the same price he'll blend the pivot pins but I requested the domed pins.

Of course if you can get a knife from Jeff there's no better value. Not quite up to his fathers level but at 1/2 the price he makes an amazing knife!

Actually, ALOT of very fine makers produce slippies. The question is how much are you willing to spend? Warren Osborne, Tommy Overyender, Ken Steigerwalt, Joel Chamblin, Jim Minnick produce some in the $600-$1,100 range. I also like Dan Burke and C. Gray Taylor, but you're well into the $1,500-$2,500 range there. Joe Kious is in the $700 range. Then there is always Tony and Reese Bose, and Jess Horn.....

Yes.... but see the style of knife that I want (top of this thread). I haven't ever seen examples of that type by those (esteemed) makers. Some similar yes... but they are all very "showy".... bright spangly damascus and pretty anodised metal. I just wouldn't buy that sort of knife. And from the likes of Bose, etc. really nice knives to be sure, (love 'em), but not of the style that I want.

Have a look at Chris Crawford. Bladmakers.com is put togerther by him.

Has a lot of slipjoint patterns, quite a few single blade edc's.

Cheers Mitch

Googling for Jeff Cover brings up surprisingly little. Just the occasional mentions on forums. Unless someone knows better?

Cheers

Nope, you won't turn much up on him. Give Ray a call and ask him about knives available from Jeff. He does not make too many. One of the amazing things about Jeff is he does sole authorship knives with one arm.

Ray's number is (573) 749-3783

Check out this seller on eBay. He gets a lot of Cover pieces and actually has a Jeff Cover fixed blade now. I purchased the Jeff Cover folder shown above from him and he's a good guy to buy from.

I've had some of Gary Crowder's work and it is very nice, also I'd add Cliff Polk and H.K. (Henry) Parker to the high value VS. cost crowd. I don't see much of Henry's work around though.
