Hey everyone! I was up last night and a thought occurred to me that you wise ones may be able to answer. I am a big fan of yellow handled cases, but I prefer a handle with a little more texture. has anyone ever tried modifying a yellow handled knife that worked? something like adding a mock jigging with a hot nail or a sawcut design with a file? any input or even pics would be appreciated. thanks all.

I think this would be a good candidate for Maintenance, Tinkering & Embellishment. Moving it there.

I haven't done it, but I've thought about it. I like the idea of adding jigging, or possibly checking with a v groove chisel. I just haven't taken the risk yet.

thanks for moving it Peregrin. makes more sense here. I was wondering about file and chisel work but wonder if it would be more likely to crack than with heat. hhhmmm. pondering thoughts

I recall seeing a post some time back, from someone who added some texturing to a Case Sod Buster in black (see below). I think a file or Dremel or sandpaper (or a combination of these) to dig some furrows into the handles was used. Same Delrin material as with the yellow Case knives, so I'd think it'd be just as easy. Aside from the relatively thick-handled Sod Busters, most yellow-covered Case knives will be relatively thin material, so one would need to be a little more delicate in sanding or grinding on them. Delrin is quite soft, and will cut, sand, shape and polish with ease; be careful with Dremels or other powered devices, as they can melt Delrin in a heartbeat.

Quoted excerpts below, from post#s 323 & 325 in this thread:

Here's one i did because i kinda got bored with it:

and details on how he did it...

I used three files and and a vice; basically started out with a triangle file just to mark where each dip was going to be, then i used a small round file to enlarge it, and finished it with the largest round file i had. I then sanded the peaks and crests, and finally buffed it on a wheel. People told me to sand it more, but i like it how it is.
Heres a WIP (one side done):

Now Im not claiming to be some kind of master, but i liked how it came out, and if anyone is interested in this treatment, id actually be willing to do it for free to try and return something to this community. I learned so much from here, it kinda feels like i stole. I realize the trust thing might be an issue, but this site priceless to me.
