Hey guys what is your favorite traditional slip joint pattern for an edc / work knife. I would say mine is probably the stockman around 3.75 - 4 inches closed.

lately its the one in the middle

For me, edc and work knife are two different knives now that I'm retired. But I still have a need for a dirty deeds knife now and then.

In my younger day, the stockman, especially the 301 stockman made by Buck, was my go-to edc aand work knife, and I still have an attachment totem. From the late 60's right up to the mid 90's a Buck stockman was my edc work knife. But I worked in a machine shop, and my edc was my work knife back then. The 300 series Buck is a Sherman tank of pocket knives, and packed a lot of cutting versatility into a 3 and 7/8ths package.

Now I'm a genteman of leisure and require less of a rugged knife, so I differentiate between work and play. My edc is a Case peanut, but on occasion that I know I'm going to be doing something more than my peanut should asked, which is not much or often, I will drop a heavier duty knife in my pocket. Sometimes a 301, sometimes an old well used Wenger SI. Sometimes an Opinel which is more rugged than most folks will give them credit for.

I havent had it long, but i am really enjoying my texas jack...its either 3 1/2" or 3 5/8"
but very slender!

but piggybacking on what Carl said, small enough to edc, but big enough (at least so far) to be a dirty deeds knife too :D

I would have to say that my favorite is my sodbuster, pruners and electrician's knives. If I had more cash to purchase more knives, I would have tons of these three patterns. I really cannot pick my favorite of the three, they are all useful in their own way. Heck, my Opinel can take a ton of hard work and come back begging for more too, I love it. If you cannot tell, it is difficult for me to play favorites!

I may end up getting a Weaver Jack because it more or less would be perfect for me: a hawkbill, a clip blade (better than my soddie blade because it has a point) and a small pen to use as a scraper/muck blade (what I mostly use the screwdriver blade on the TL-29's for).

For many years I carried my Boker 7474 yellow bone stockman & Opinel #9 at work ( trades, construction, demo, and then HVAC installation )

I am in the oil and gas industry and the case 47 stockman is my favorite pattern. It is just a great all purpose knife.

My favorite is my 85 easy open in ebony. I remember Carl writing how you never know when you may be under the weather and need your knife. Like most things Carl says, I believe his wisdom but I can't 100 percent relate until I experience it.

About a year back I was just eating dinner with my gf and about an hour later my entire body went numb and I couldn't hardly move or walk. I ended up in the hospital for two days unable to open my eyes or even lift my head off my pillow. Docs tested everything and couldn't find a cause. Point of the story. The second day I asked my gf for my 73 in the hospital. At this point I was just trying to be able to even hardly lift my head. I couldn't open it and neither could she.

Guess what, she could have opened my 85 easy open. It just made me think, worst case, I can't open my knife and we NEED it. I want something she can open too.

Silly reason, but I also like my 85 for a lot of other reasons. Its slim, pocket friendly, light, strong, durable and very sharp. Enough blade to cut more than most guys would think.

Bullet end easy open jack and barlow.
Master blade is spear, and with a coping.
If I wanna slice something easier,I may try adding a wharncliffe trapper in the pocket.

I like my S&M 3 blade sowbelly. It's different than a stockman, but has the same 3 blade profiles. I like the way the sowbelly frame fits in my hand when I'm using the blades.

Something single-spring two blades or something around 3 3/8". The GEC 83 which locks is a big favourite, too bad it's not offered in all stainless though. But, I like a lot of other types too, knife promiscuity you see:cool:

Mine also is the 4" stockman, give or take a ¼ inch. USA 8OT today, along with an alox Cadet.

Most carried since February when I got it, Winchester Black Box Swell Centre Pen. Could badly do with a reserve example too.....
