For me, edc and work knife are two different knives now that I'm retired. But I still have a need for a dirty deeds knife now and then.
In my younger day, the stockman, especially the 301 stockman made by Buck, was my go-to edc aand work knife, and I still have an attachment totem. From the late 60's right up to the mid 90's a Buck stockman was my edc work knife. But I worked in a machine shop, and my edc was my work knife back then. The 300 series Buck is a Sherman tank of pocket knives, and packed a lot of cutting versatility into a 3 and 7/8ths package.
Now I'm a genteman of leisure and require less of a rugged knife, so I differentiate between work and play. My edc is a Case peanut, but on occasion that I know I'm going to be doing something more than my peanut should asked, which is not much or often, I will drop a heavier duty knife in my pocket. Sometimes a 301, sometimes an old well used Wenger SI. Sometimes an Opinel which is more rugged than most folks will give them credit for.
