Hello, I am a Tall Ship sailor looking for a traditional style knife that is not stainless steel.

Something along the lines of this knife (Can't buy that one since it is stainless.)

Just out of curiosity, why non-stainless?

You may find something like a Russell Green River Works line, or an Old Hickory Sticker might work too, if you want a double-edged similar to the one in your pic.

I want it to be the traditional way, and I like taking care of it. (And pride ;) )

Actually, the one in the picture is single-edged (seen several in real life)

Hmmm... looked up the brands you suggested, and didn't really see any knife with the traditional "seaman" style blade, and no one had the hole in far end for rig-safing so.. thanks either way!

I think I might have found something but it says "Cast steel", don't know if that's really what I'm looking for, although it seems good.

Lol. I hear ya. When you're looking for something very specific, there's always something not exactly right about each item you look at. I know the feeling well. :D That's the only one I was familiar with offhand, so it's the only suggestion I could make. Hopefully you'll get plenty more suggestions, though. Best of luck in your search.

try this guy Bone Collector Fixed Skinner Knife 15015-2 Cocobolo, D2 steel, wood handle, hole in handle best i can do after 40 min of searching.

That Lowen knife looks as good as it gets for a carbon steel deck knife.
I have not used it but wouldn't mind to try it.

If You have google'd "rigging knife" and choose pictures, You might already have seen the pic's of proffessional rigger sets.

I have that Bergo tools in Your first post and it's not a bad knife if properly sharpened, but it lacks the feel of a traditional solidly built knife.
However, a boatknife doesn't benefit from heavy weight, as weight will be dangerous if the knife comes loose in bad weather...

About carbon steel onboard boats, yes it works as long as You don't forget maintenance.
I have a few that has started to rust due to neglect.
Today I prefer stainless and it really works to my satisfaction.

Regards

Mikael
