I just finished up my first real traditional Japanese style tanto. I forged the 1095 blade about 2 years ago, ground it, heat treated it and it had been sitting in my toolbox ever since. So Since orders were a little slow I figured I would work on it here and there. Here are the finished results.
I made all the fittings, Habaki, Saya ect.
The blade is 7-1/4 to the top of the Habaki, and 8-3/8 to the top of the Tsuba. The Habaki and other fittings are all copper that I antiqued. The Saya is Brazilian Cherry and has 6 coats of lacquer on it. The handle is Bocote with black rayskin wrap and the Ito (wrap) is flat, blue cotton cord. The Tsuba is Eggerling mosaic damascus. It is all dry fit held together traditionally with one wooden peg. Overall the knife is 13in long.
Thanks for looking,
Chuck
