I know we have a lot of teachers here on the Porch, both past and present.
In honor of "Teacher Appreciation Week", I thought we could do a Roll Call of all our teachers.
Tell us what you teach, or what you taught, and please include a picture of the traditional knives you like to carry to work.
And thanks for inspiring all our kids and young adults, and helping them find their paths in life. 🤠

Thank you, John and all teachers.
I taught for 25 years, 1976-2001. Three of those 6th grade, in between the twenty-two teaching K-5 elementary art. In '76 I carried a 110 in a sheath on my belt, as the years went on and social climate changed I went to a 501 first in it's belt sheath then in the pocket. Last few years a 505, then no knife.

SWFK (My wife -She Who Finds Knives!!) spent her later career teaching Early Childhood Education at Langara College, and has been a wizard at finding misplaced knives for this Child!! 😇 (One a Tony Bose!!) I owe her big time, as do thousands of young children. Teachers still call her for advice!!
A truly appreciated teacher of teachers!!
Great thread, JohnDF JohnDF !!

Funny how times change.
I remember many of my teachers, mostly Shop and AG, carrying 110's on their belt.
her daily carry is a #92 antique goldenrod camel bone Eurkeka Jack.
Wish i worked with her, that'd be one less teacher asking to borrow my knife. ;)

I'm sure she taught you a thing or two as well. ;)

My better half taught HS English for 37 years. My wife buys me a knife once in awhile. I usually get to pick it out!😁
My youngest son is a Professor of English Literature at a SUNY campus, and has been the recipient of many of my knives over the years.
I love teachers!

Great idea John! I’m almost finished with my 30th year of teaching primarily 7th graders the subjects of geography and economics. I’ve also coached 8th grade girls basketball for 28 years and boys track for 7 years. I had a SAK officer in my desk pretty much the whole time. For the last few years since I’ve gotten back into collecting traditional knives, I’ve carried pretty much everything I own at some time or another, and they’re usually paired up with one of these two.

My wife is a teacher and has been in the field for 10 or so years now. She works in behavioral health and is responsible for managing a classroom of kids who have behavioral and/or developmental issues - depending on the year, she may be handling 1st grade, all the way up through 8th grade. This year, she is working with 5th and 6th graders. She and some of her colleagues have been pioneering a new program in our state and before Covid happened, it was catching some notice due to the success they were having with the kids.

Because of the nature of the children she works with, she absolutely does not carry a knife when working. When off work, she has developed a keen interest in the Copperhead pattern so I have been slowly but steadily adding to her tidy collection. This is her assortment as it stands now.

Funny story...
My wife works for a different school district. She is the Assistant Superintendent for that district. They keep trying to get me to teach Math at their Alt. Ed. School and I keep telling them, "NO!" I told my wife that she's my boss at home, I don't need her to be my boss at work too. Lol... 🤣

I appreciate all you teachers out there. My wife is retired and taught for 35 plus years. With her degree she could have taught and made a lot more money at many schools but she loved working with pre schoolers. Her students to this day thank her on Facebook or in person and when she tells me a student contacted her the joy in her eyes/ facial expression tell it all. My wife will not carry a knife but she does help me when I get a custom knife. She loves purple and JK made this Purple Heart EO1 EDC for me. Thank you Teachers

I’ve been in front of a classroom since 1979. The last 35 years I’ve been a special education teacher working with kids with behavioral and emotional challenges. For 21 of the 35 years I taught at what is called non-public school for kids with severe social and emotional challenges. Basically they were the kids that the public schools didn’t want to touch with a ten foot pole. All were at risk inner city kids. It was the best teaching gig I’ve ever had. During my time there I was hit, kicked, slapped, spit on and called every expletive you can imagine. Most of the kids had been severely abused and I was always amazed how resilient they were given what they had endured. All most of them needed was a parentectamy. After that I move back into the public school system and am currently working with 3rd-5th graders with emotional challenges. Next school year is going to be my last rodeo. Bottom line, I’ve loved every minute of my career. Oh yeah, I cut up apples for my kids daily for snack using a modded SAK.

I don't know how anybody could continue to teach/coach after the last bell rings... you have grit. ;)
I talk to my kids about grit and growth mind set all the time and how important it is for their success. In my book, that is about as high of praise as one can get. Thank you John.😊

While I am technically faculty, I don't actually teach these days. But I used to teach archaeology at a local community college, and before that I taught anthropology in grad school, so I count right?

When it comes to my traditionals, 90% of the time it is my 2015 forum knife. There is just no other traditional that has ever met my needs and aesthetic as well as that knife. 8% of the time it is my BSA scout knife, because it is good for work, but a little fat for pocketing most of the time. The other 2% of the time is these other knives, which I just love too much to leave in the safe. Especially the whaler, even though it really isn't practical for me. It is just too fun.

Tip of the 🧢 to all of you who work or have worked with kids with special needs of any type. My wife is a school psychologist so she tests and places theses students. Being there for these kids is a tough gig, and I have the utmost respect for all that do it. If we were all together, the first one would be on me!🍺
