Traditional vs Flipper vs Thumbstuds

Since I have gotten into good flippers (RJ Martin, Todd Begg & DDR.) , I love flippers. My second choice is thumb studs.

My absolute favorite style is flipper only. No studs, no hole, just a blade with a flipper. Studs get ground off during sharpening, holes catch on stuff while cutting, so that leaves the flipper, which doesn't alter the performance of the blade.
I do like studs if they double as the stop pin, but then I don't really use them for opening anyway.

I prefer a thumbstud or hole most of the time, but that is only because it is what I am used to. I like the flipper on my ZT but hate them on smaller knives. I have pretty big hands and don't have the dexterity to utilize them on knives like the Leek for example.

I guess I'm in the minority here, but I'm not a big fan of the flipper.

Nailnick, thumbstud, hole... doesn't really matter as long as the blade opens smoothly.

Depends on what the knife is to be used for. For me: hole, the flipper, then thumb-stud.

thx - cpr

Well, I scoffed at the hole for many a year. I preferred the thumb stud. Then a friend showed me his Griptilian with the hole. I played with it for a while and said "you know what, the hole doesn't suck". I now have a Spyderco Sage, Spin and a a Benchmade mini-Dejavoo with holes. I think I am starting to prefer the hole.

So I think it will be hole, stud, old fashioned nail nick, flipper.

I really like the flipper since I got accustomed to it. What I really like is when a knife has the flipper and thumbstuds, as is the case on my ZT0200's. Gives me a couple of opening options!:)

My Leatherman has a Blade Launcher.:D

I guess that would qualify as a flipper.

Flipper, stud, hole, nail nick.

I hate having to use two hands to open a pocket knife.

I'm sorry, but I couldn't help but giggle as I was reading through this post :P

I don't own a flipper yet, but to me it seems like it would be a bit awkward depending on the knife size. For me it's stud - hole (close second) - flipper - nick.

Flipper, stud, hole. Have used a nail nick less than a dozen times in the last 20 years. Hmm, time to start carrying some of my old slippies I guess.

A tie between stud and hole. I'm just not a huge fan of flippers for some reason.

I really prefer knives that I don't need to employ a stud, hole or flipper. My prefered method of opening is just a flick of the wrist, works great on knives with larger blades, which are the type I prefer. I have a flipper (and stud) on my ZT200 and a stud on my BM610 but never use either. I have heard that some states don't like knives that can be opened by flicking your wrist but I live in Vermont and have no worry about such nonsense:) With some of the lighter bladed BM's with axis locks, the lock has to be pulled down with the thumb to flick open which drives me bonkers.
For me its wrist flick or bust!!:D (if I had to chose one I would say flicker)

What knife can do this?
