Traditional?

Hi there friends,

I have a new EDC fixed blade coming for my birthday. I really like the looks of this one. I have one question for the true traditionalist here. Would you consider this an actual traditional in your collection?

How about a general consensus? Traditional or not so much?

Thanks for your thoughts! If this one is not considered traditional I would request Frank or Gary to close this one down :)

Hi Gevonovich and Thanks!!

It is called the "Essential" I believe.

Here are the general specs:

Specs:

Overall Length: 6.2 Inches
Blade Length: 2.7 Inches
Blade Thickness: .141 Inch
Blade Steel: CPM M-4 @ 63-64rc
Weight: 4.7 Ounces

This one has desert ironwood burl handles.

Thanks again my friend!

Thanks Pete!!

Kevin

Being stainless maybe? Otherwise it looks great and is a traditional design.

Beautiful knife, I love small fixed blades.

Pinned wood handles are very traditional, IMO. CPM M4 and desert ironwood, very nice. Happy birthday Kevin

Thank you, my friend!
Just the perfect length for pocket carry! It's going to be a very special B-day and I'm happy for you.:D

The desert ironwood rocks by the way!

I'm not so sure about the fuller, but otherwise it looks traditional to me. The M4 should be great.

Thanks so much guys! I agree about the fuller.

Arizonaranchman, I believe CPM-M4 is considered a high speed steel and not stainless :) I could be wrong.

Ah ok, my bad! That's an awesome knife regardless. What's the sheath you get with it? Share some pics when u can. I have a stubby fixed blade by Boker that I love but I don't think it would quite fall into the def of Traditional.

I think so, too. If you took off the fuller (although it looks nice, it serves no purpose on a knife that small other than to snazz it up) and looked at the knife it would certainly be just a great looking drop point hunter.

Couldn't get more traditional than that! That's a really handsome knife.

HAHA, well this one was a dud. I requested this one and the day after I saw it was sold. I just found out it was NOT sold to anyone I know! Oh well. You win some you lose some :)

First, beautiful knife. Not my style, but nice knife regardless.

Now, traditional? Weeeeelllllll.........that depends. Traditional fixed blades are kind of hard to categorize sometimes. Obviously, Western brands and Kabar, and Finnish/Icelandic, et al and some others are recognized as traditional, but where the line stops exactly is kind of blurry.

I'm working on a small edc fixed blade right now. Micarta covers, lanyard hole, corby bolts (which when finished look exactly like pinned handles), D2 and 1095 steel. Kydex sheath. Traditional? Probably not. I'm making the same exact knife for my personal dress knife; feather pattern damascus, elephant ivory covers, stainless corby bolts, no lanyard hole. Nice leather sheath. Traditional? Maybe. Close.

In my best Forest Gump; traditional is as traditional does. Let's push the envelope a bit.

Sweet! That's a good looking blade. I think it straddles the traditional-modern line nicely- pinned hardwood handles and a nicely swedged blade, but modern steel, blade grinds, and fuller. In the end, regardless of whether or not its truly 'traditional', I'm still very jealous.

Why are you guys worried about the fuller? Looks more like a long pull but they forgot to put in the pivot! :D

looks traditional enough for me.
and to me, the fuller would add traction for using it in a pinch grip when dressing out small game, so I don't see it as "useless" -- I personally would like it better if they had used either a wider ball end mill or a shallower groove so the sides weren't so sharp, as it looks like it will be very efficient at trapping dirt. ;)

Change of pace!!!

I was sitting down to order the one I posted in my OP and I was told, "don't order it, I will get it". The next day it was sold. This time its for sure!

Here is the actual one I will be getting :)

The burl is a little less striking but its okay, its going to be a user so maybe its best I didn't get my first choice. I probably would have pampered it too much :)

Thanks to all for the wishes and respected opinions!

Kevin

I will get pictures of it as soon as I get it! I am not exactly sure about the sheath situation. As for the fuller, could it serve any purpose in balancing the blade?
