Traditionals w/ modern handle material?

Guys/Gals,

I've got a quick question.., which, if any, of the more traditional knife manufacturers use more modern handle materials? I know this may be sacrilegious to say, but I don't like bone, ivory, or many of the woods used on many of the traditional knives. I'm more of a G10 and micarta kinda of guy. Plus, I've got a weird OCD thing that the knives I'm carrying need to match(I usually carry two). For instance, I'll pair my Ritter Griptilian with my GEC F&F tool, both with black scales.

That being said, I'm looking to pick up a few more traditional type knives and I'm having trouble finding many with plain ol' black scales. Anything out the like the Northwoods Madison Barlow, but with some type of black scales? Material itself doesn't matter, it's the color I'm more interested in.

Thanks in advance for any info!

Case has some G10 and carbon fiber. I would really like to get my hands on one of those. Case also has several colors of bone look plastic, or dyed bone, blue, black and others.

Canal street uses a lot of modern materials like g10, kirinite, and micarta.

They will also use the same handle slabs on different patterns so you can have matching knives. For instance I have a Canal street barlow and half moon trapper in panama white linen micarta.

Maybe check with modder Esnyx? Evan does some terrific work and will work with you to get just what you want for scale material and blade configuration. I've a couple of his mods with another coming yet.

The Indian River Jack in ebony may suit you. I have one and they are nice knives.

Good stuff!

Ebony wood?

Hi! Yes, they're available with ebony wood. I added that as the OP is looking for black. Here is mine, which was modded by Ken Coats for EZ Open. I've another in smooth bone stowed away.

And the description from KSF.

"This is one of the handiest, most pocket friendly pocket knife I have ever carried. It is a slim cigar pattern with a single blade which makes it very easy on the pocket.

The CPM 154 blade is stout and ready for real work. It is a great pocket knife.

Blades: CPM 154
Length Closed: 3 3/4"
Pinned Shields"

And one Evan (Esnyx) made for me with a mesh composite material scale. I think he could make about any color you want, but you'd need to confirm that with him. His work is quite nice.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys! I've got a few Case sod busters and a few others, which I love, so I'm not to anxious to get duplicates of those. But I'll definitely be checking out Canal Street and some GEC offerings in ebony wood. Thanks again!

ETA: I think I've narrowed it down to either

Or

Anyone have any pics of either they'd care to share?

I think you'd be surprised that most "modern materials" are over 100 years old

Micarta was invented by George Westinghouse around 1910

Carbon Fiber has its roots dating back to the 1880's - Hi tensil strength CF dates back to the 50's....

I love this g10/carbon fiber weave stuff. The green is my favorite. Wish they had sold better as I would love some other patterns in this material.
