Traditionals: Your favorite blade pattern.... has it changed over time?

Talk about as many of your favorites as you like. A long time ago, my favorite was the clip. Then drop points (which still score high)..... I'm starting to turn toward the spear..... especially the ones with long straight edges like on a Victorinox SAK. It's got a strong point, straight edge, belly..... everything I need in a blade..... I still love all blades except maybe a wharncliffe (which to me is a good looking blade), but the spear might be the only blade I need. Of course, certain pattern knives might just call for certain blade patterns.

Where are you at? Clip? Wharnie? Spear? Drop Point? Spey? Lambsfoot? Sheepsfoot? Bottle Opener? Can Opener? Awl? Tanto?

Tell me about it.

I prefer spear point blades, and noticed that all the Case knives (and other brands) that I've sold off, or am currently selling are non-spear points. If the SAK main blade was never a spear point, I would not own a SAK.

Still a newbie learning what shape I like and what it is best used for. At this point, for me, it really depends on the length of the blade and egonomics of the entire closed and open length. I suppose that is why I love my 81 stockman. It covers pretty much all I need.

i started out a clip lover, but like you I am starting to fall for a good spear point (like on a SAK or Gec 92)
I finding myself going to the spear point over and over, but i like having a poker like the awl on the SI just in case ya know :p

Oh gosh, mine has a lot, and still does...

Ive went from jacks to stockmans, then whittlers, then sodbusters, then scouts and now I am at lockbacks for my traditionals. I would probably have fixed blades as my favorite, but I dont own any traditional-styled ones really. My tastes and styles change constantly, but that's the kind of person I am, I am always changing. I guess you could say thats the only consistent thing about me :D

I still adore multiblades and the of the different uses all of the blade shapes have, but my consistent favorite blade shape has always been a clip point; following close second are sheepsfoots.

To be honest, I don't think I will ever have a 'favorite', just like how I dont have a favorite color, food or anything really...but I'm ok with that.

A slender clip along with a stout sheepfoot is about perfect for me, but a long, slender spear blade is pretty close to the clip for a main blade.

Near perfect clip master: slender, long pull, cut swedge

Near perfect sheepfoot: short, stout, markside pull

I can't get over how alluring a clip point is, but being a huge fan of trappers saying a clip and spey blade are my favorite may be a little biased. Next would be a Warncliffe depending on what needs to be cut but the most interesting blade is the cotton sampler style pattern. Something about that deep belly is intriguing.

I was a sheepsfoot guy for pure looks. They are still my favorite when it comes to looks, especially closed. I like the big hump back.

For use, my favorite is the clip point. I like the downward angled "belly" and the function over the sheepsfoot.

Used to be clip points, now it's the spear. I love it for its versatility. I discovered my love of the spear with a #15 boys knife in a single long pull spear configuration. I cemented that love with two of Ken Ericksons fantastic spearpoint EDC patterns. My recent discovery of the amazing alox handled SAKs has only further reinforced my love of the spear.

I still like clips, it's solidly my second favorite. Never have warmed up to the wharncliffe or sheepsfoot really.

Slow down there..... not favorite pattern knife..... favorite blade. :D

I'm mostly after spearpoints these days, but a well fashioned wharnie or sheepsfoot will never go wrong. Clips are the only ones I don't really have much use for.

Ha! I misread the title and you post must have went over my head at first. I started with patterns and switched to blades. Holy heck I need some sleep, hehe.

See, I kinda stayed on track, I said I like clips and sheepsfoots :D

I certainly like a variety of blade styles - that's one of the reasons I own so many pocketknives! My first two pocketknives were an Official Cub Scout and an Official Boy Scout - gifts from my parents in the 1960's, equipped with functional Spear main blades. However, the first pocketknife I picked out for myself, a Buck 301 in 1970, had as it's main attraction a Clip main blade - I liked it then and still like a Clip now. My other favorite blade style was also built into that Buck 301 - a Sheepfoot. Here is a knife that has both of my favorites in one package, with no extraneous blades thrown in - in my mind the perfect pocketknife (well, one of them anyway!):
