Behold, my first Jackknife-esque posting. ;) Hope I can do the originator proud.

People talk of history, and tradition. Yesterday, though, was a great brush with it.

My dad is a Freemason, as was my grandfather before him, and generations further. Yesterday was my turn. It was a one-day class, which many will scorn lightly as being non-traditional, but that's the best I could do. Going about it the long way would require time I won't have for a few years. Yet, after all was done, my dad pulled me aside, and passed me a small box.

In it, a ring. Not just any ring, though. The body of it was my dad's, before he got his Shrine ring, with "DLD 3-8-76" engraved, and now, it has "CDD 3-31-07" next to it. On the left side was something familiar- one of my grandfather's lapel pins, worked and set into the side. On the right, one of my great-grandfather's lapel pins, set equally.

So now it is mine, gracing my ring finger proudly. Great-grandfather, grandfather, father, and me, all tied into one.

I love tradition.

Wow that is great, I can only dream of having something of that value and importance...Cherish it as I know you are...Thanks for taking the time to share..

It's wonderful to have that tradition and connection from generation to generation. I'm sure you will treasure that symbol of it.

Yeah, that really touches tradition right in the center. A positive and warm tale. Thanks for sharing it. You are very fortunate to have that grounding line.

When four generations share something, its a thing of beauty that is priceless. Be very proud of the honor your dad gave you with that ring. Its a trust of generations that came before you!

I'd hope that little work was worthy of being called Jackknife-esque. ;)

The ring is going to get slightly resized- 7 7/8ths instead of 8- but beyond that, it has a permanent home.

~ ><> ~ Your induction into the FM was and honor that your kin thought you worthy of spanning (3) generations before you..

~ ><> ~ Blessings to you as I am sure you will do them proud!!.

My dad's hands were shaking as he held the Bible for my oaths. ;) He's a strong guy, so I just told him it was Gran'pap and Great-Grandpa keeping a hand on, as well. When dad signed the register, he signed the two of us in, as is normal- he was my guide and thus spoke for me- but he also signed in my grandfather and both of his grandfathers. When the secretary asked who he was signing for, he just said "One candidate, one Past High Priest, and three Past Masters across the Jordan." I darn near cried.
