'Cutlet'? What the hell are you on about, Arnold?
Well, it's not a cutlass...so what else do you want me to call it?

This here's .189" thick CPM 3V with an overall length of about 18"- as long as I can fit in the heat treating oven with the door shut
Handle is Terotuf laminated to G10. Brass pins. Skelotonizing cutouts are filled with low rebound rubber which is a gimmick I intend to exploit
The sheath is hand stitched 9oz leather, hot waxed. I was a quickie, nothing fancy but it fits as well as any sheath I've made

Pretty fun blade! It's kind of a grail type design for me in a way, has all the things I like in a big knife for the forest

Love to know your thoughts, and thanks for checking it out!

Great looking blade. Curious to what the weight of it is? Looks like it would clear some brush in short order.

I know it's a bit longer and looks to be slightly thicker stock than the Light Chopper? How does it handle compared to the LC?

I love it! I’m ready to buy it right now! How’s that for a thought 😂 No, seriously, I am 🤣🤣

Do you think the rubber is a gimmick, or do you notice a difference in vibration / shock / feel in actual use?

Digging the new chicago screws, beautiful grinds as always!
thanks very much :)

thanks man- it's a little longer- maybe up to 2"- than the LC, but I think it might be a little thinner. Off the top of my head, the LC was in the .21" range.
performance-wize, the additional length makes a predictable difference, but the edge is also curved along its entire length which creates a little more of a shearing effect.
I've only had the opportunity to test it a couple times, so I can't give you much more than that unfortunately

haha! Thank you, I'm flattered!
this lil knife is packed up and will be on its way to North Carolina today, where it will work its way to Blade Show. We'll see what happens from there, but I will consider your post and offer and give you right of first refusal
I can only speculate on the rubber inserts. I'd have to make two identical knives and test them side by side to know if there might be a difference. My brain says yes, so I'ma go with that for now

Hey man, it's not flattery. It's just recognition of awesome craftsmanship! 😁 We'll see how it unfolds, but I'm ready if it's ultimately available. Thank you.

I'm trying like hell to move a big client event I have scheduled the Saturday of Blade Show, but it's 50/50 at best right now. I've already moved two other conflicts that I was in control of, but this one I can't push too hard and risk losing the client. So I'm just waiting for them to see if they can move it🤞

I agree with you, it just makes intuitive sense that the rubber would absorb some level of vibration, even if small, so I think it's a great idea!

I wonder if there is a material you could use as a liner, maybe some kind of hard rubber that doesn't flex much so the scales don't move, instead of the standard G10, that would serve as another layer of absorption and kind of insulate the scales from the blade for these big choppers with big hits. I bet a smarter mind than mine, like yours, can come up with something 😆. Or it may just be a dumb idea 😂

fingers crossed for an agreeable schedule for you!
the Sure Touch laminated G10 material is kind of what you're talking about, but I like the idea of incorporating Terotuf into the equation because that shit is the shit. It's not the prettiest stuff, but it's non toxic and you have traction even when it's wet. I think Nathan nailed it when he made composite/rubber hybrid handles years ago, I think for the Behemoth

Yes, I'm actually a big fan of Terotuf. I have two CPK knives with it that get stronger use, and I love the grippiness! I think I remember reading somewhere that Terotuf also has better shock absorption than micarta and G10, so excellent choice.

And yeah, I've been trying to score any CPK Chopper of any size for a while now, with zero luck  so I've never even held a Behemoth/Behemother 😆

I called dibs on this bad boy in the wip thread lol. I need it in my life. Finished product turned out amazing with a hell of a sheath. But seriously I definitely called dibs hahaha

shit, sorry man- I thought you called dibs on the cutlass proto! No problem, though, it's still in my possession. Well, that's not totally true- it's at the CPK Compound and will make its way to Atlanta with the crew. If you're feeling close to 100% about it, drop me a pm so we can get on the same page, and if you still want it I'll make sure it doesn't walk away with someone else at the show

Lol, sounds like you just need to make a couple more cutlets Lorien. I'd be on that list for sure! My ideal is basically a d3v LC equivalent thick blade with an extra inch or two in length over the BC. Bought a 1311 to fill that grail role but the geometry is so thick on that blade its like cutting with a wedge 🤦‍♂. Gonna see if I can adjust that without ruining the temper and get rid of the sandpaper coat if I can. Though if you or nathan ever made a blade like that (or like this beautiful cutlet I guess?) I'd be selling kidneys to get on it for sure.

Anywho, wherever future projects and works go cheers all

Grats on the come up grunt soldier

thinking about working on some large blades this winter. I have a ton of small utility knives of various designs, and a couple folders that I'm going to start rocking out once this sheath run is behind me. Once I move through enough of them to get our bank account stocked up enough, I'll order some steel and get some big choppers up on the bench
