I had some time to relax and hang outdoors. I usually don't have the time being a full time student and full time bartender. I cheated and went for a walk before studying (38 year old going for a bachelors). This is a trail that starts at the end of a golf course. It goes out to the bay and wraps around a peninsula. I brought my dog (Charlie, a girl) and some odds and ends.
I started prepping a fire but backed off since its not legal to do so. Just split some wood and made shavings for fun. Much of it didn't get caught on camera since I was having too much fun. A great day out nonetheless.

Nice Pics! What kind of dog is she? Very pretty! We are looking for mid-sized dog. She is super pretty!

Adopted her at 3 months old. She was with a litter. She is now 4. They said she came here from Puerto Rico. My guess is she is part Border Collie. Fastest dog I've seen and super smart.

Great looking dog! I used to have a border collie that looked a lot like her. The only downside to border collies is if you don't give them a job, they will find there own - whether you like it or not! ;)

@Andy...good Lord this is a great knife. Loving it! @M4...whatever she is mixed with, I am thankful, makes her very mellow and she doesn't chew anything up or go nuts. She is the best dog I could ask for.

Looks like a great time newyork! Thanks for sharing it with us. Pretty trail, dog and knife. Didn't take long to get a nice patina going on that Hunter.

I used to hunt for rabbit and pheasant as a kid in an area very similar to that. It was located across from Floyd Bennett Field in your neck of the woods. In the winter we would walk for countless miles up and down the coast. We only used a bow but after a while you developed an eye for spotting rabbits in the cattails.

Chapel that sounds fantastic. Eastern Long Island. North side of the South Fork. Thurin, I did put some Chinese mustard on it yesterday to force one, so i cheated. :)

Mid-size? Sounds like you're looking for a sedan, not a dog! :p

Op, great pictures. Love the Osage and the pup. Oh, and congrats on bettering your life. It can't be easy doing that at our age.

No way! We used to kick around the same area … long before Kings Plaza or any of that stuff was there … was "Floyd's" there when you were hunting it? I don't remember before Floyd's, but that's long gone … they 'developed' all that and built a Toys R Us or some such … also developed the land across from it into a small golf course …

what years are we talking? … I was a kid there in the late 60s and early 70s …

All my family is out on the Island now (I'm the only Virginian) … Massapequa, North Babylon, Lynbrook, Islip, Greenlawn, Montauk … went up for Thanksgiving, good to see the old stomping grounds.

Felt great to get out there. The longer I was out the less cold I felt. Charlie loved the freedom. I enjoyed myself and I'm a little amazed being a knife nut was the catalyst to me being outdoors and deciding to continue going out there even in 27 degree weather.

Hey Ed, small world. I was there during the same time. We would start on the Gerritsen beach side of the inlet and work our way around past the golf course, down to Dead Horse Bay to the Rockaway Bridge. Sometimes we would get a boat and hunt an Island in the middle of the inlet called Mau Mau.

Looks like a nice walk, through a beautiful area, with a good friend. I have always wanted to visit an area with both hard wood forests and the coast at the same time. I lived in Florida for years because I love the coast, but the last summer I spent there the bugs and heat near drove me nuts. That Hunter looks awesome, and it's very VERY capable knife in the woods. Is yours the SFT tang 5/32?
