A while back our mate Trailbum gave away a couple of Kydex BK15 sheaths and somehow I managed to end up winning one (yay me!). I showed off my bounty in a drunken thread I made showcasing the beautiful quality of said sheath plus my BILs 15 which I think is awesome. In the comments section I mentioned that I had plans with the sheath and that I'd show it off again once I had finished. Well. Believe it or not I actually sat down later that night and did what I set out to do. And then got f'schnickered again and promptly forgot to post it up. Until now. So. Without further ado, here is my Trailbum BK15 baldric-carry combo sheath..

The whole rig. BK15, BK14, fire steel and a now almost obligatory ESEE pouch and tin (for fire starting materials)

I nicked the kydex fire steel mount from a BK16 sheath that I had laying around. The eyelets were spaced perfectly..

Just regular old paracord that plaited together. It's more comfortable than it looks..

Where the BK14 mounts to the sheath. Again, eyelets aligned perfectly. Three of the four pouch eyelets also matched up exactly too, so it's held on there nice and firmly. I just used a pile of Chicago screws I had laying around to attach everything..

Random picture of my dog, Wheels. Looking resplendent as ever. Hey brother!

This little innovation I'm quite proud of. A crappy plastic D clip with some paracord and a cord.. um.. thingy that I pilfered from my ESEE6 sheath. Allows me to attach the bottom of the rig to a belt loop on my dacks so it doesn't flop around when I lean over. Extra cord allows adjustment..

A lot of you are probably thinking "why baldric such a small knife?". Well I'm not much of a belt carry guy unless it's a dangler so I thought I'd try something a little different. Believe me when I say though, this thing is comfortable! I wore it around all day after I made it, even whilst mowing the lawn.

What it looks like when I lean over. Stays right where I want it. I clipped the D ring up on one of the front belt loops but you can also clip it to one of the side loops with a small adjustment of the cord so it sits more under your arm instead of on your front..

Almost a year ago I was directed to Sparks house when I Googled 'BK2 Sheath Mods'. Well, we all know what that brings up. For those that don't, here you go:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/845352-BK2-Sheath-Mod-Extremely-Photo-Heavy

Anyway, when I saw Dubz' splendid effort I thunked "man, I wanna make something that cool for one of my knives!" Now personally I don't think mine ventures into the realm of Dubz masterpiece but I am pretty stoked on what I've come up with. But it all hinged on that super cool prize that Jase gave to me. So, thanks heaps for the prize bud, I love it. And Dubz, thank you for the inspiration. And thanks also goes to Bladite. Because he never gets thanked. Which he should because his banning finger gets REEEEAL itchy sometimes..

Anyway folks, that's it. Hope you like it..

Springy..

Very cool rig!
I've just recently got to check out Trailbum's sheaths and I gotta say, they're pretty darn nice.
Thanks for the pics. That whole setup is a neat idea.

Sweet rig bro! Looks like it'll help keep ur pants up as well!
I like different set ups, and this one fits you. Now you have room for 6 to 15 more blades elsewhere :D
I tried to fit "whilst" in here somewhere but failed...until now haha!

Thanks fellas.

Thanks Jonny. Yes TBs sheaths are really cool. Very well made and, as it turns out, quite universally versatile.

Thanks Slicebags. I had heaps of fun making it. I always like to have a combination of blades on me, for different purposes but sometimes it ends up being that I've got way more knives than things to cut! This rig is going to be a staple in my kit though fo sho!

Werd up...I can see wearing it on the mower too... Much easier to get to than on the hip. I'm always having to hack a briar or branch outta the way to stop it from snagging me or having to duck.
Ya got me thinking now!
It's late and my brains already in bed waiting for me to join...

man that thing is kool, although if I wore it people might think I was out for blood but I think i'd really like that carry

Yeah man she sits exactly where you want it and both blades are in the perfect spot. It didn't move around at all when I was walking and mowing etc. And my convexed 14 breezes through whipper snipper cord!

Thanks brother. It does kinda look like a detectives gun holster.. Yeah I never considered the baldric style for anything smaller than a 9 or a 4 but when I received the sheath I saw that I'd have to come up with a way to carry it. Oddly enough, this method seemed the easiest to construct. It really is actually very comfortable.

That is a totally Northern Hampshirian setup, BeeKay (which means VERY cool).....though I'll ditto MadIndian: if I wore it people would think I was out for blood. Hell, I can't even wear my 11 around my neck without someone commenting. "Hey, Crocodile Dundee! Who ya gonna kill with that thing?" Sheeple are idiots, sometimes.

Pretty innovative design BeeKay. Love the way it carries. Pretty smart with the D ring and cord LOCK too [emoji6]. Well done.

Your guard dog though, looks like he's got a little bit of crazy in his eye…I'd watch your back. [emoji3]

Thanks for the kind words.
I'm glad you like it.
Does the strap fall off your shoulder when walking or hiking?

To the OP. Cool rig! Even cooler dog.

trailbum, I love your sheaths.
I bought a BK-16 sheath from you and got one of the free BK-9 sheaths you donated for a past Becker Gathering. Excellent kydex.
Thank you for supporting the Becker community.

This was the rig I carried in an ESEE 3-day survival course. It performed admirably. (I added the fire steel loop myself).

Derek you bastid. I texted you. How you is ?

Also... Nice rig ..lol I LOVE my 15 sooooo much! Thats a great way to carry it.

Hell, yeah, I'll ditto the love for trailbum sheaths. Even more impressive after you've taken a "tour" of the "factory" ;). My 4 goes everywhere in it's trailbum (northeastkydex1, iirc) sheath.

On top of that, despite his rather, ah....sparse posting style, he is one hell of a human bean in person. Plus, he has eaten grubs. And I do not mean pinch the nose and swallow sort of eating, either....bit in half and savored (!) sort:

Very impressive survival skill.

No it stays on a treat. I cross it over my chest so it doesn't move anywhere it's not wanted. Thanks again brother..
