After some advice - having some real difficulty finding steel training knives. Rubber, wood, ali readily available. Steel however, is a different story.

Toying with the idea of getting some steel plate shaped, or else buying a live blade and having the edge and point removed. If I do the later, any thoughts on the best way to do this?

Thanks in advance
Tony

You can blunt a blade for training with 80-100 grit wet-or-dry paper. The tip can be ground to a rounded shape on a simple bench grinder, and smoothed up with the paper.

Check the knife you buy if it is a collectable, keep it as is if it is an also ran cheap knife and you dont have tools. Buy a couple of meters of emery cloth.
It comes in 1 inch and 2 inch strips. Buy the cloth backit is not much more expensive but it will hold up better to this job. Use a backing stick (flat slat) even a ruller if you have the narrow emery. Side ways across .

A file should not be able to blunt a strong edge unless it is a hard chain saw file again one of those should not cost too much.

Finish off with a fine grit.
